It seems like everyone in my family is a teacher. I am, and so are my mom, mother-in-law, aunt, brother, and sister-in-law.

Just read in another thread that 5 out of 7 siblings were in the healthcare field...so it got me to wondering...does any profession run in your family?

Yep...nursing!! One grandma was a nurse, the other was a midwife. My stepmom retired from nursing a few years ago. Out of eight sisters and three step-sisters, (12 of us all together), seven of us are nurses. The other ones are a social worker, an OB/GYN, two SAHM's, and an attorney (she always marched to her own drummer !!) :rotfl:

Sure. Many of the women are either teachers or nurses. Many of the men are in the Navy or Coast Guard or they work in the shipyard.

Psychologists. My uncle, my cousin, my sister, and my niece are all psychologists. DD plans on studying psychology, as well.

If you knew my family, it would make perfect sense. ;) On the plus side, it does make discussing an issue easier--everyone knows your background and childhood traumas so you can get a diagnosis without years of therapy. :rotfl:

Nope. Although, most tend to be blue collar or trades people.

Also, my grandmother was an antiques dealer for 30 years. Two of her daughters (out of 8 kids) are also doing the same. But no one else.

But if you need a house built, I have someone in my family that specializes in whatever needs done. There are framers, electricians, roofers, masonites, plumbers, etc. And I even had (deceased) an uncle who did interior design.

All doctors and engineers - we tend to gravitate toward the sciences - grandparents, parents, siblings, husband. I marched to my own drummer and became a lawyer - but my undergrad degree was in the sciences "just in case" I wanted to go to medical school too.

Same in my family. Mom, Dad, DSis, BIL all teach. Dh and I are the only hold outs.

I thought we were in the clear for big family Disney trips in non-summer months now that my parents retired. Now we have to work around DSis and BIL's school schedules.

I am the only teacher from my family, however my DH is also a teacher as is my SIL, BIL, MIL and FIL. I really feel sorry for my nephew, between his mum, dad, auntie, uncle and grandparents we teach all year groups from starting to leaving school!

I don't think they do in my family... My grandfather is a sewing machine mechanic, my dad sells medical supplies and before that, he had a shoe repair store, my mom is a teacher, my sister is a speech pathologist, my uncle is a dentist My aunt (by marriage) is a music teacher. One of my cousins is a graphic designer for a TV station in Israel, the other cousin is a bar tender, and supposedly getting a social work degree. I'm in medical school, going to be a doctor.

So we're kinda all over the place, I guess. I guess if you wanted, you can say my uncle and I gravitated towards a similar field, but considering my uncle has lived in Israel my entire life, I don't think he influenced me all that much :)

Lawyers back to the early 1800s. One branch was composed of doctors, son to son, but it has petered out.

DH, his brother, their dad, most of their cousins and all of their uncles are engineers. Nearly all of the younger generation went to the same college as well. DH, as one of the two youngest (in college at the same time), still talks about his first day in class when a professor got to his name (the other cousin is his dad's sister's son and had a different last name so was "missed") and asked "are you one of THE _____?" He wasn't sure if he had a reputation to live up to or live down:rotfl2:

Us girls have a huge variety of careers among us though--it was just a trend among the men for some reason.

Kind of. For a while 3 of us had worked/was working at a certain hotel, then two brothers were working at the same bank, and now my other brother and dad work at the same place.

CPA's.

My maternal grandfather was and my maternal uncle is a CPA.

My paternal Aunt is a CPA.

My maternal Aunt and my maternal cousin both work for different CPA firms, though neither are CPA's.

I am a CPA.

I married a CPA (though we are now divorced, but he remarried someone with an accounting degree).

My dad is a financial analyst so similar background.

We have lots of other things mixed in, though...several computer programmer/MIS types, a veterinarian, an artist, several attorneys, a preschool teacher, a graphic artist, a hairstylist, advertising, etc.

I am the other poster and I was talking about DH's family. My sister and her DH are CRNAs. My DH was an RN when I married him and I am an RN. My DH has since returned to school and become a CRNA. Funny thing is my Mom who is a bra burning, feminist from the 60's and a PhD was a bit disappointed when my sister and I went to Nursing school. Guess she thought we weren't living up to our potential. Her attitude changed once she got the insider view of what goes on in a major trauma center and how often times, it is the bedside nurse that saves your life.

My sister and I both thought we wanted to be dentists. She couldn't due a problem with depth perception and spatial ability. I was in a pre-professional (pre med, pre dental and pre vet) track in college and hated the competitiveness of most of the men in the program. The nursing program was a much better fit for me. We have both enjoyed our nursing careers and felt it was our calling.

Well, my mom's a civillian working for the Army, and I plan on doing the same after I get out of college. Just different jobs. Same, employer? I guess.

Not on my side (blood relatives). We have a nurse, a teacher, a college softball coach, an engineer, a policeman...no repeats anywhere.

On DH's side...lots of nurses and other health care professionals...physical therapist, vet, physicians assistant.

DH seems to have started one for law enforcement. DH is a cop. I was. His nephew and neice both are.

My family is full of doctors (surgens) and I made the choice to teach:teacher: instead. My father was VERY disapointed:mad: and didn't talk to me for a while and refused to pay for any of my college. So, I paid for it myself. I hate blood, don't even like to see my own, so that's why I don't want to be a doctor or in the medical field period! I love teaching and this is what I feel I was ment to do in life. My husband and his family are very supportive and that's all that matters to me. My father said that I was putting myself in a position where I wasn't going to be making any money along with some other hurtful things, but I won't even go there. I love teaching and that's all that matters. I want to have a job that fills my heart and passion in life, not my wallet. money is important, but it shouldn't be the major factor in life.;)

Back to the early 1800's! Amazing! No lawyers in our family...until our kids.
DD is an attorney, and DS is in his last year of law school. I guess a certain profession runs in our family, now. :cool1:

(And I think it's kinda sweet that my 500th post was about my kids. :))
