Do certain "noises" bother you after awhile?

Don't get me wrong - I am soooooooo thankful that I have a window a/c unit here at the lake with this horrendous heat, humidity, and extremely high dew points we've been having since what seems like forever, but the "sound" of the a/c running is really grating on my nerves..:headache:

I turn it off as often as I can - using just the ceiling fan - and only turn it back on when I have to - but that's been pretty gosh darn frequently the past 2 weeks or more..

Adult DD hates the sound of my clock - you can hear it ticking - but I'm so used to it, I don't even hear it anymore.. My Dson-in-law hates the sound of my fridge - when it "clicks" before it kicks on.. LOL..

Do you have a sound in your house that drives you crazy? Just curious.. ;)

I'll be happy when I can keep the a/c off for at least a full day! :rolleyes1

I find the sound of my tinitus (ringing in the ears) to be most annoying. So pretty much most white noise is soothing to me.

100% silence, for me, is very much loud. Feels like someone is playing a very high pitch in my ear 24/7. Kind of like the old emergency broadcasting test signal.

Okay - that I could never deal with!! Isn't there anything they can do for that? :confused3

I take back my "vent".. The a/c is just fine and dandy.. LOL..:rotfl:

We have a ceiling fan in our dining room that after a while the sound of it gets annoying because it sounds like it has gone off balance when it runs longer than an hour.

They've been hawking "quietus" on commercials. And the commercials are annoying...they play that sound. Aaaaaaahhhhh. But supposedly it fixes the problem. I'm not so sure and since I don't order from tv/radio...not sure I will ever try it.

Listening to the ceiling fan right now. I wish it were louder. Lol.

Knock it off balance - LOL.. Couldn't figure out why mine was making so much noise a couple of weeks ago and then realized that it got knocked off balance when we had those tremors from that earthquake up in Canada - my place was rattling pretty good for awhile there.. It was a really loud humming - even Dson-in-law commented on it..:goodvibes

My ears are so sensitive! I agree with you 100%.

we have construction happening in three different directions from our house on our block. No A/C here (C.Ann I will happily listen to your noise for the cool !) so the windows have been wide open most of the time. The jackahmmers start up around 7:00 and I hate it for the first hour or so and then get used to t and can tune it out for a bit but for some reason around 4 or 5 in the afternoon it starts to bug me again and I just can't tune it out anymore. One of the sights has been running them until 8 or sometimes even 9 at night and the loan hammer and the clink clink clink of stones falling going with it drives me batty.

The ringing ears must be horrible:hug: I have had that from time to time but it always goes away after a few hours--living with it would be so hard.

After listening to them for a month during the World Cup, the vuvuzela.

In OHIO???? You don't know the half of it Firedancer:rotfl::rotfl: Were you hearing them "live" or just on TV? They sold tons of them here and we had lots and lots of live playing during games and for hours after wins. It was fun but a tad annoying at times too.

The TV. If hubby's in the house, he's got to have the TV on. I rarely watch it (mostly b/c I work from home and I've turned into a workaholic), but I can hear it everywhere in the house -- the drone of some show always on. Drives me nuts!

DH CAN'T STAND when people scratch metal utensils on ceramic plates. We actually eat on plastic plates at home because the sound grates on his nerves so bad. :lmao:
My only problem with sound is that when there is too much background noise, I can't focus on the forground conversations. I hear it, but can't seem to follow it. KWIM? This seems to get worse with age and is very annoying. If someone wants to talk to me, I have to turn off the sound on the TV, turn off the fan, tell the kids to move to another room, and/or make a conscience effort to focus on their face, etc. Makes me feel old.

your window ac rings to true. We have central ac..but a few weeks ago it broke. So until it was fixed, my husband went out and bought two window ac units, one for living room,a nd one for bedroom. The living room one drove me crazy for the few days we had it.>All I could hear was the soundit was making..I didnt turn it off because it was in the 90's outside..but the sound was almost making me crazy.. My house is noisey enough with 3 kids and 4 dogs, but the ac unit almost put me over the edge;)

My DH!...:lmao::rotfl2:

No seriously though, my house is quiet enough, its the OUTSIDE noises...my neighbor and there dogs, my neighbor and his tricked out minivan...my neighbors....you get the idea

Just outside the house - treefrogs. They chorus at night -all night- and it is LOUD!

This is why I love my central air. Quiet and cool.

We had a cricket in our hotel room last week that made a low cobntiuous sound all night long-it did pause occasionally do I know it was a cricket. Drove me nuts.

I just thought of one.. being next to somebody who smacking/cracking their gum... For me..this is the MOST annoying noise I can think of..and also so rude of the person who is doing it.
Its not just the occasional cracking of the gum. For example, standing in line in the grocerystore, somebody behind me, chew chew, snap, snap, crack crack..chew chew, crack crack snap snap...Do people not realize how rude it is?? U want to snap/crack your gum...fine do it in the privacy of your house or car..but most of DO NOT want to listen to it, when it is continious

For me, it is somebody chewing on ice. I can't stand the crunching noise, it makes my skin crawl and I get REALLY upset after a little while to the point that I have to move away from the person doing it if they don't stop, LOL!
