Hi Folks,

I have my free dining package booked and paid for and was wondering if any Canadians buy the insurance offered by WDW for the trip cancellation/medical/baggage loss?

I usually buy a comprehensive plan through CAA, but after talking with the Cast member at Guest services at WDW found that the rates (even though it is US$) is a lot less :)

Hoping there aren't any pitfalls to purchasing insurance issued from the USA.

(CM said it was available for Canadians and is refundable up to 14 days after purchase, so I've got a few days to think it over)

Would love to know your opinions :goodvibes

i tried one year to buy the disney insurance but was later told that it does not cover canadians so we just get our insurance now through our bank or caa and most credit cards have some medical insruance on them

I was assured by the CM that the insurance now covers Canadians (I hope he was correct :scared1: )

I have up until Jan 13th to change my mind and get a full refund :)

I don't insure the Disney portion of my trips, just the airline portion. And I get that through Continental but it is a company in Quebec. I figure if I need to cancel or postpone the Disney portion the fees are about what the insurance premiums are and from what I've heard here on the Dis, Disney is usually very forgiving when people have had to reschedule their vacations.

So far we haven't needed to use any travel insurance services, for any reason, but to my mind it's better to be insured, and this is what we find worth spending some money on upfront. :)

Since we travel once or twice a year we have an annual policy on our Bank of Montreal Mastercard. We were paying per trip and it was expensive. I know some other credit cards have the option as well but our BMO card has the best coverage...below is off the BMO website. We have medical coverage through both our places of Employment so we pay $60 ..... if we needed the full medical is would only be like $99...and it covers everyone in your travel party/family...

Thanks for posting everyone :thumbsup2

My flights will originate from the US, and are with SWA & Jetblue, so I think that credits would be issued if an emergency occurred.

It's the medical thing I'm always concerned about.

I like the info posted by vacation_junkie about BMO Mastercard and as I have one, I am going to check this out :thumbsup2

Thanks again :goodvibes

:thanks:

Disney's insurance has limitations for Canadians..stick to a Canadian provider.
As for CIBC Infinite..I have that as well. It covers medical and trip interruption..not cancellation. Again..limited. You really have to read what is covered and the amounts.

I have an annual policy on my Homeowners via Intact-Travelwell. Just over $130 a year for my family of 4 adults. Excellent coverage for medical..cancellation...interruption.

Wouldn't be without it!

I asked our agent (Statefarm) about travellers insurance on our home owners policy & they told us they don't do it & that they really had never heard of it. Who are you insured with for your home owners?
