If I get on a bus at my resort, will the bus eventually return to the same resort? I'm trying to plan things to do for my next solo, real budget trip. One thing I love is riding the bus, listening to all the excited people around me, planning their day at the park. So I was thinking of just getting on a bus at the resort and riding around for a while (wierd, huh? But to me it sounds fun!) If I do that, will the bus eventually be coming back to the resort I left?

I don't know if they are always in a loop or if it depends on the time of day.
Like at evenings, the busses head to pick up the masses at the different times the parks close.

At the worst you could get off the park, you end up at, and switch to the bus that takes you back to your resort.

The buses do not usually return to the resort they came from. They go where they're needed.

We know this because we rode the bus from POP to Blizzard Beach one afternoon, and just as we were arriving, a huge thunder/lightning storm hit, and they closed the waterpark.

I told the driver that we would just remain on the bus and go back to POP, and he told us that he was headed somewhere else, and that we'd have to get off and wait for the next bus back to POP.

So we had to get off the bus, and stand in the pouring rain with the THOUSANDS of people leaving Blizzard Beach to wait for our bus.

I think what your planning sounds like fun. What does it matter whether the bus returns to the resort you started out or not. I would think it would be fun just to ride one bus for a while just to see how many different resorts and parks it goes to. When you're ready to return to your resort, just get off the bus at any of the parks or DTD, then board the bus that goes back to your resort. Have a great time.:goodvibes

This would be fun for the monorail also. I love the monorail. I also enjoy the boats. Ive never rode one (purposefully) in a loop, but if thats what floats your boat I say do it!:thumbsup2

I actually did something similar last trip on property. While my family slept in one day, I wanted to resort-hop just looking w/o having to hear my husband tell me we have "seen enough". I got off the bus when I wanted, stayed as long as I wanted, and listened/talked to other families traveling to the parks. Good for you that you get to have such a care-free time!

It used to be that unless a bus was going out of service, they did go in a loop. However, part of the new routing system changes that, because buses for low volume runs are redirected to routes that need extra help. I feel bad for guests that forgot something in their room, and have to get off and wait for another bus instead of just staying on the one they came in on. Imagine if you forget your wallet or park tickets!

As the bus approaches the park, the driver calls dispatch. They then tell him/her which hotel's bus stop to go to. That will be the next destination for that bus. However, you can always get off that bus, and walk to the stop for your resort. Enjoy your trip!

That's true-I never thought of that. Duh! I'm glad it doesn't sound too dorky that I'll enjoy it. Thanks for all the help!

On our last trip in May 07 we spoke to several bus drivers who said that Disney has a real problem with the new bus routes. He said that drivers who have been at Disney all their lives are leaving because they hate the new changes. He said they are having a real problem finding drivers that will "put up with" the changes. He said the new bus system takes all the fun out of the job and makes the job stressful. I will note though, that even though several drivers VOLUNTEERED this information WITHOUT US ASKING... when we did ask one of the drivers out of the blue, he denied any problems. He said "I like the changes. Its organized now". So obviously its all how you look at it.
Just in case your wondering, we always opt for a front seat and we enjoy talking to the drivers. They are usually really nice. (though a few havent been, one of them was downright rude, and we reported him. He was excessively rude and it was uncalled for.) but in general, they are usually a wealth of Disney info.
We only chat with the ones who dont make many announcements. If they are announcing we just listen.:teacher:

This "new" system is not any different now than the dispatch system has been for many years. The bus is dispatched to the next resort needing service. It's "possible" to return to the resort that it just came from but unlikely.

When the system is fully operational, it will be just like how things are done in the morning, just that it will be all day instead of ending at 11am. The biggest difference is that the system now spiels instead of the driver (but the driver can spiel afterwards if so inclined).

What is frustrating the drivers is the fact that the system is still far from perfect and is being pushed ahead instead of fixing the issues. The only drivers that should fear the new system are drivers who don't do the job properly.

When the system is fully operational,

You mean if they can get it operational, the system goes down daily, many buses have GPS computers that don't work, are they going to take those buses out of service if the dispatch computer doesn’t work? So far I have driven many buses that had problems with the computers, and the GPS doesn’t work when it rains or when there’s sunspots. Me thinks this will be a big disaster this October when it’s suppose to go LIVE officially.
