Do babies get seasick?

I think I have heard that babies are not very prone to motion sickness.
I will have my 23 month old on our cruise. Anyone know - should we take preventive measures for such a young baby?

My DD is 2 1/2 and I just asked my pediatrician yesterday about motion sickness for her since we are cruising in 3 weeks. He said it is unlikely that she would get motion sickness because the boat is large and you don't really feel it move at all. His recomendation was to buy a pack of the ADULT dramomine and if she was to get sick give her 1/4 of the adult tablet. If the 1/4 didn't work he said to go up to a 1/2. Then he said, "keep your receipt and return it when you get back". LOL

I don't know when you are cruising or how old your child will be when you cruise but at 23 months I would imagine it would be the same dosage. You might just want to check with your pediatrician first.

Hope this helps. Have a great cruise.

I brought my 2 yr old last October on a 7 day cruise and she didn't have one single problem. She enjoyed the ship a lot, and had a blast at Flounder's Reef the few nights that we put her there.

I had always heard that children have much fewer problems with seasickness than do adults and that has been our experience. On both of our Disney cruises we travelled with many children (ranging in age from 15 months to 10) and none of them ever had a problem (though a few of the adults did from time to time). If you are greatly concernced, talk to your pediatrician and he/she can offer specific advice .... but i think you'll be fine! (and i have heard that green apples and gingersnap cookies can combat seasickness ... and getting kids to munch on cookies is usually an easy sell, so that might be a good preventative measure).

Thanks muchly for the advice. I think he will be fine. I am more worried about myself.:crazy2:

While cruising back in 99 with my DD, she did get seasick. She was 14 months at the time. I had nothing for her. The ship's doctor said there was nothing he could give her other than saltines and ginger ale.

We were on a smaller ship and the seas were very rough. It was our first night on the cruise. DH and I decided that we would get off at the next port as there was no way we could have her so sick for two weeks.

The ship's dr told us to expect the seas to calm down in about 12 hours. He also told us that she should get better as she adjusted to the motion. He was right. She got better after about 6 hours eventhough the seas were still rough.

It was a miserable few hours but she was fine for the rest of the trip.
