I want to make individual apple cobblers for the other teachers/assistants in my grade level to take to school tomorrow. I would like to bake them in the morning, so they are still warm when I arrive. I would like to peel and slice the apples tonight and have everything ready to assemble tomorrow morning. I know the apples will turn brown, but will that affect the taste of the apples once they are cooked into the cobbler?

TIA

The apples turning brown(oxidation) will not affect the taste. If the color worries you put them in a ziploc bag and sprinkle some lemon juice on them. Put them in the fridge and they will hold just fine until morning.

Color doesn't worry me. The cinnamon will camoflauge the color anyway. thanks!

No problems.. I just recently had to use some brown apple slices.. I had peeled the apples (a lot of them) and was getting ready to make a bundt cake that requires several layers of apple slices and something unexpected came up, so it had to wait until the next evening.. Although I did put some lemon juice in with them, I guess I didn't put enough because they still turned brown..

Colorwise, no one knew the difference - because this particular recipe called for quite a bit of cinnamon and other brown spices - and it tasted fine - no different than the last time that I made it right away.. No one knew that I had peeled the apples the day before, so I'm sure you'll be fine..:thumbsup2

I ended up getting up earlier this morning and peeling the apples. I started worrying that the apples might absorb other flavors from the fridge. By the time I finished the last apple, some were already brown anyway. They are in the oven right now and smelling great--YUM!
