I know a smart advice for most cruisers is to 'pack less', but I look so forward to the fun of dressing up for certain nights that I end up packing a lot! (I'm not even going to say 'too much', as I wear everything I bring.)

My weakness is shoes (especially dress shoes), and I pack a pair EACH for formal and semi-formal. I also confess, this year I'm planning on bringing a dress for each formal, and semi-formal, instead of wearing the same dress twice.::yes::

Until our first DCL two years ago, our family's only chances to 'dress semi-formal' were for ocassional weddings. (DH's company eliminated the annual Christmas party to cut costs:( )

Now, BECAUSE of DCL, :Pinkbounc I must have a different dress, pair of shoes, jewelry, handbag etc, for every night there!:teeth:

I know it takes more space and effort to bring lots of clothes, but it's so much fun to wear them!:p

Does anyone else do the same?

Count me in there, I had 2 long dressy dresses, one for formal night and one for Palo's, and one cocktail length for Semi formal, and 2 different pairs of shoes just for dressing up, in addition to my sneakers and flip-flops. :)

Thank goodness our garment bag could hold all the dresses, DH's suit, and DD's 2 fancy dresses without a problem, PLUS it had room for a few pairs of shoes, so it wasn't any issue for me!!

I had absolutely nothing that looked decent. Last time I dressed up was in the mid 90's!

Was fretting and low and behold, found a fantastic sale at the mall! I ended up with 3 Formal Outfits! Could not decide which to bring so I brought them all! I ended up wearing only one pair of shoes, the ones that turned out to be the most comfortable, but did bring the others just in case!

Enjoy!

Originally I thought the dressing for dinner was the least desirable part of the cruise ...bringing all that extra stuff on vacation. Well, I am a changed woman..it is one of the highlights. I say knock yourself out. Pack what you want and make the most of it as long as it doesn't take over your luggage and you end up paying excess baggage fees.

We love dressing up, and no matter where we go we always over pack. You never know what you might need! We're going on another cruise this Oct. and hopefully I'll be getting a new, more elegant gown for formal night. And don't even get me started on shoes! We're shoe freaks in our house.

Love dressing up on the 7 day. Brought a different dress for every night.

I am bringing one dress, one pair of shoes, a pair of sandals and a pair of sneakers....oh and a pair of water shoes, can't go wihtout those! Not taking any pocketbooks or any jewelry.

Hey, Mickeyhugger, I have an idea!

How about we dress in our very best cruise-formal duds and meet for dinner at The Grotto? princess:

(howdy, neighbor! yummy...)

I still have a looooong time to go and I'm already planning what I will wear! I will be taking a different dress for every night and cannot WAIT to wear the formals. It will be hard for me to not take shoes for every outfit, that is a very big weakness but I think I will limit it to two pair of dressy shoes that can go with all my dresses. I already have an adorable pair of red satin thongs (the shoe kind of thongs! ) to wear on tropical night, now I just have to find a red tropical outfit to go with them. :teeth:

That is one of the big mistakes I made on our first 7-day -- too many shoes, purses, etc. Now, I really do like to get dressed up and I do bring formal dresses for semi- & formal nights, BUT I have learned my lesson on the multiple shoes, purses, etc. BRING dresses that you could wear the same shoes and use the same purse for. It just is not worth the room it takes up in your luggage. Be creative and cut back on those extras.

For the 4-day cruises, although I don't dress up as much, I do bring one black dress that I wear twice and just wear a decorative wrap with it for one night and a different necklace to make the look a bit different. I really really REALLY regret packing so much for our first cruise. Never again. :crazy2:

So on the flip side, is it pretty tacky to wear the same thing for "formal" night and "semi-formal" night?

Or to wear something to Palo's and then repeat with your tablemates?

I just don't want to have to lug too many things around with me.

Brenda,

Nooooooooooo! It's not tacky! Are you kidding? (That's what most do.)

I only brought three dresses last year, and wore each of them twice. It also makes for much easier packing.

This is the only time that our family has the chance to dress up, and I was just asking if anyone else is going to go overboard (no pun intended!) and pack something for everynight.

Have fun on your cruise!

Absolutely not! You can take an outfit and make it look very different with a few accessories!

Not tacky at all, and very efficient!:teeth:
