Do any Kids CS offer a different dessert than JELLO?

At Tusker House (AK) we were able to substitute grapes for the jello and at Cosmic Rays (MK) they could choose any of the adult desserts.

That's good to know. Sorry sugar free Jello is crap. Applesauce is a side at dinner for us and we are not brits. But at least it doesn't have artificial sweetner in it like the Jello. Grapes or carrots would be better than Jello. I will just give my kids my dessert to share if I have no choice. They need to let the kids have a cookie or rice Krispy treat or something else like that. how about granola bars.

I guess having a Brit for a grandmother makes me say "what pork chops WITHOUT applesauce -- No way! Give me my applesauce.

HI Neighbor! I am in Fall River.

We are not British at all but are Polish, and my mom always served applesauce whenever we ate pork as kids. I don't serve it now because my kids would rather eat an apple than have the sauce. I wonder why Disney does not give the option of a fresh apple. Perhaps storage issues?

I have never been to a restaurant outside of Disney that offered applesauce as a dessert at all - whether kids or adult menu :confused3

I am so not stressing about the Jello since if that is the only choice, we simply will not get it and will just share an adult dessert with the kids or get them a Mickey bar or whatever later as a treat.

Yep, I think of applesauce more as a meal accompaniment or even a condiment or ingredient than as a dessert. I know my kids loved it when they were under 5, but weren't too excited by it when they got older than that -- probably because they considered it "baby food" since that's what I fed their younger siblings :rotfl2:

I would just as soon they eliminated CS desserts for adults and kids -- not many people are all that excited about the choices, several that used to be something worth looking forward to (like the carrot cake at Tusker House) are now prepackaged stuff. If you came across something that really did appeal to you, you could pay OOP or use a snack credit. I doubt that Disney would lower the cost of the plan at all, but it might prevent them from raising the price or making other cost-cutting changes that might be more unpleasant in order to keep the price the same.

Yeah, but we don't consider applesauce a dessert when the adults get chocolate cake. :rotfl2:
Folks who don't consider the included desserts (or appetizers or entrees for that matter) adequate can always buy their children other desserts. :thumbsup2 The child's price for the Dining Plan is incredibly low -- just using the snack credit and one of the other two meals per day is more than enough to cover its cost.

Our family is strange. We consider applesauce a dessert. Especially if it's the sweetened stuff. If we want fancy, I sprinkle cinnamon on it.

On the one hand, I actually don't mind the sugar-free jello offered on the kids menu. But, not for my children...for me. I'm on a diet that allows sf jello as one of the few treats allowable (i.e. diet legal for diabetic & southbeach dieter), so I'll let DD have whatever dessert would come with my meal and then I'll eat her jello (can't even have the apple sauce, so YIPPEE SF JELLO). It's an odd concept, but it will work for us.

On the other hand, I do however, understand how that will not work for most and other than kids that are diabetic, don't see most parents choosing the jello for kids. I am grateful, however, that the kids that are diabetic do have the option of the SF jello since many have to be extra careful even with fresh fruits and especially high glycemic-index apple sauce. It may be pretty bad for most, but for some, it's a relief that it's there and I do hope that they keep it as an option, although it wouldn't hurt to add a few more choices.

On another hand...Hmmm (how many hands is that?....I wonder if the dietetic staff that chose the options of SF Jello and applesauce only offer those choices to their kids when they go out to eat? I know that anyone "can" purchase extra desserts and especially when the dining plan is free, it would not cost much, but those 2 items being the listed options is pretty sad.

Well, let's throw another hand in there (:rotfl: ) and I'll simply add that we (only speaking for my family) were lucky enough to get the free dining plan this year, so I can't complain too much. We're making it work, so I'll just be happy with that.

Hopefully, anyone who can't reconcile it will be able to substitute something else for it and still get a great deal!

I traded my dessert last year with one of the grandsons for his applesauce. - it was definitely not sweet and was very coarse. Hope they have changed it -
I like applesauce but could not eat that one.

Didn't you get the update that stated kids can now have a choice of desserts with CS meals? I think Disney Link posted it. I'll check and post the original message if I can find it.

I assumed someone had already posted it. Came thru a day or two ago:banana:

Just got back a few hours ago. I can happily report that there were lots of changes that began this week. Chocolate pudding or a chocolate chp cookie were offered. Pecos Bill took off the sloppy joes and added chicken nuggets- Great for us as DD5 would have never eaten that!

Wow, this is really great to hear! It's nice to know that Disney is listening to what the guests are saying, and have decided that offering some reasonable, better tasting choices for children won't put that big of a dent in their pocketbook :goodvibes Yay, Disney!

Both natural and artificial sweetener are available, so guests can use whichever they wish. Applesauce readily incorporates whatever sweetener is put into it. :thumbsup2

:yay: Good news! My kids would love either of those choices. No artificial sweetners for my kids. Laos they don't even know what a Sloopy Joe is  . But they do eat chicken nuggets occasionally and it's fine on vacation. thanks for posting.

In all our CS meals, my kids never ate Jello. They got chocolate chip cookies at most places (Cosmic Rays, Flame Tree Barbecue, Liberty Inn...the ones I can remember). At Sommerfest in Germany, there is not a kids menu so they got adult desserts. It really wasn't a problem. I was so full sometimes that I also shared my cake or whatever. We loved the DDP and had no problems.

Electric Umbrella had chocolate pudding. I saw a lot of people at El Pirata with ice cream bars but I don't know if they were getting them on the dining plan.

That is great news! I'm also glad they seem to be listening to us. I'm glad I wrote an e-mail - it's rewarding when your voice is actually heard.
