Do any DVC owners USUALLY go solo?

HI Everyone !
I am NOT a DVC owner, and I cannot afford to be while I am still paying car payments. But still.......it sounds wonderful.

My DH and I do not have any children and it will always be that way. He also hates to travel, which is why I now have had 4 annual SOLO trips to WDW. I have come to really enjoy going solo. I cannot afford a DVC membership, but I have been really dreaming about splitting my stay in Dec. between 3 nights at The Swan, ( Gov't discount ) and then 3 nights at a 1 bedroom villa, by possibly renting points. I really want that whirlpool tub in my room !!!

On one hand, I really want to pamper myself with that large room with THAT tub, but on the other hand, it almost seems silly for just one person on a solo trip.

Anyone care to comment ???

Hi! I take about half my DVC trips solo. And the other half, although DH is technically with me, he spends most of his time as the golf course-can you say "golf widow"? In November, I took my first solo DVC trip, since we're fairly new members. Boy, did I love it-for lots of reasons. For one thing, there's nothing like coming back in the middle of the afternoon and having a cup of tea on the balcony of our room. Also, getting up in the morning and drinking your morning coffee in your PJs watching "Zip-a-dee-do-dah tip for the day" at least 20 times! And I found a little increased feeling of security knowing that no one (mousekeeping) was coming into MY room during the day. And bringing left-overs back to my room occassionally to reheat in the mcrowave. I could go on and on about the joys of DVC for solos. Actually, although we own DVC together, I'm looking at a small add-on at BCV just for my solo trips there!
BTW, I used to stay at POR solo (as I think I remember you did), and although I thought I'd miss it when we bought DVC (actually I stil expected to stay there), I didn't miss it at all-I love my DVC and don't look back.

I dont do any solo trips, but a lady on the dvc aol boards makes tons of solo trips. Im not comfortable being solo..
I get lonely :(
But if you like to travel. by yourself..
DVC and 150 points would be great for you

I usually go solo and bought into DVC for myself. Yes, I often stay in the one-bedroom units solo too. It's my vacation and what a way to relax. Some may complain that I am taking a larger unit away from a family but they are my points to spend as I want.

I have stayed in studios also and they are nice but the larger unit spoils you.

Let me say that I am one member of a family of four and I would never say you are taking a larger unit away from people with a family. Let me say I am just very very jelous....I dream of spending time at WDW alone in a 1BR. It sounds like heven to me...after a crazy day of my kids screaming. Maybe one day I could do it, but my DH loves WDW so I would have to at least bring him. So enjoy the 1 Br for yourself and once awhile think kind thoughts about the people who wish their family would let them get away with that. :D

I just did my first solo trip to a DVC resort as a DVC member. I guess that I am too frugal to spend the extra points on myself, so I ended up in a Beach Club Villa studio for 12 nights.

BTW - Have you considered just paying cash for a room with a whirlpool? Or is it actually less expensive to rent points.

My DH hates Disney so I own DVC by myself. I usually go to Disney solo, but sometimes my 16 year old DS likes to tag along.

I second what TandyR said.... I have a husband and 2 small childern and as much as I love our family vacations and cherish the memories, I would love to check into a 1 bedroom at BCV and sit on the balcony and/or by the quiet pool and read a book for a few days. I would also love to just go walk around Epcot by myself and take it all in without having to worry about anyone but me!

I am taking a friend of mine to BCV in a 1 bedroom for a girls weekend for the first time ever without the kids and they are not happy about it AT ALL and I know I will have a good time, but I will be showing someone around WDW who has never been, not that I am complaining, it just won't be the same as going there by myself and relaxing.

Go, get the 1 bedroom, if you can afford it and enjoy!

I am of the mindset that we all work hard, and our vacation is for doing what we want to do. If what you want o do is rent a 1BR, then do it. It's not selfish or stupid or anything else.

DH and I also have no children, and we alwaya rent a 1BR when we go. I like having 2 separate rooms (BR and LR/K), I like the washer.dryer, I like the whirlpool tub. Yes, we could certainly stay very comfortably in a studio, but it's our vacation and we don't want to stay in a studio.

Yes I go solo...even when traveling with others!

For your December trip I would recommend looking for a cash reservation rather than trying to rent points. DVC is VERY popular with the membership that time of year. It could easily be harder to get into the room of your choice with points than with cash.

I will say I stay in Studios because I never use the jacuzzis...I just go out to the whirlpool which feels like heaven because its outside.

Thanks everyone for your replys. So far what I'm going to do is this: I will make my ressie for The Swan for all six nights, gov't discount. Then I will watch very carefully for someone willing to rent out points, for me to possibly split my stay for 3 nights at The Swan, and then 3 nights in a one bedroom villa. If I can't get the points, or I can't afford it, or whatever, I just will keep my original ressie. But it sure is exciting to think about the possibilities ! I love planning !

Besides........I really need to be *planning* to get me through
this snowy, cold, winter. It makes me feel better.

when I go solo I generally just go for the studio - I hate to use points - but when I bring other people - I go for at least a 1-bedroom and if I have the points a 2-bedroom.

I would rather stay in a studio at a DVC resort than not go to WDW.
