Do any Dvc members miss hunting down discounts?

I'm just thinking once I buy in resale (should be soon!) then what will I do with all the time usually spent looking around for rumors of the next free dining promo or trying to get a pin?

Call me crazy but I might miss that. Lol.

However I am much more excited about being a member.

after abit, it will become more like a sense of freedom not to have to go on the mad crazed hunt for codes & discounts!

Nope. Reading posts on the discounts boards where people are waiting for discounts and then are upset because the dates they planned are blacked out makes me glad to be a member.

That is one of the things I LOVE about DVC. I hated that part of things since I never got one of those elusive pin codes and thus, just felt a lot of envy for those on the boards that did!:lmao:

Now, I know I have my discounts locked in for years to come and seeing the deals just doesn't bother me at all!

You should still look for them! When all of your points for the year are used up and a great deal comes along, you book another trip! That's what I do!

You can just transfer all that energy into getting & planning ADRs or looking for things to do that you haven't done before.

Once you are a member and know for certain you will be back often, there's no need to spend all your time in the parks on the rides. There's so much to enjoy besides the rides. :teeth:

I thought I'd miss the "discount hunt", too, but actually, all I really felt was RELIEF that I no longer had to worry about that. Now I spend 99% of my time here on the DVC Forums.

Actually, I do get it. I love to plan and enjoyed the hunting around for discounts. I now just get to do it for others.:goodvibes

Same here - I'm always on the lookout for a good deal ;).

I don't miss the discount hunting at all. We were AP holders before we joined DVC (still are, of course), so I was always hunting AP rates. The waits for the AP rates to come out got longer and longer and the discounts were less and less. Also, the resort/room category we wanted was often not available. I love knowing I have BLT locked up at 11 months. No, I don't miss the old days, at all! :D

I'm just finding that now instead of watching for discount codes and such, I'm constantly looking at resales and dvcnews to see what the current offers are if I decide to add on.:rotfl: I'm still obsessing but in a different (probably much more expensive) way.

Nope, not at all! The codes were getting fewer and discounts were not as discounted for the rooms we were looking for. Now you can have time managing your points and figuering out how you can get the most stays for them!

NOT AT ALL!! And even being a CM, with a 50% discount I still do not miss it at all! I LOVE:lovestruc now knowing I can go several times a year, and only need Spending money and plane tickets!!! to kewl for sure!

I always had a running savings tab for Disney vacations, now, I just pay my loan every month and it is still cheaper for me!!:yay:

so happy I joined! and bought more...:goodvibes
now to just wait for GFV!

Just transfer that hunt to your airfare and car rental discounts!!!

I'm also a deal hunter and I love that the pressure of searching for deals is gone, since after you find the deal you would always wonder if a BETTER deal would come along and go nuts..so now I just am secure in having my room and then look for deals in other parts of my life to save more money to pay for all the extra trips I'm taking since I have a room :)

I do miss it and I dont. I miss the planning and the thrill of getting a great deal but I dont miss the disappointment of not getting a good deal when others do.

I do keep an eye on the Disboards because there was a time a few years ago when AP holders got to ride the car free at Richard Petty experience. There was a time that AP holders got discounts at all of the retail outlets in the parks. I wouldn't have known about these in a timely manner if it weren't for the Dis!:thumbsup2

It's more fun if you get an Owner's Locker and review the contents prior to your trip and decide if you need more stuff or need to replace something. Also, it's fun to stock up the room with food/snacks/beverages that will surpass anything available at the parks and be much cheaper:earsboy:

Wow thanks for all the great responses! I especially liked the one that said they look for add ons now instead of discount codes. I could totally see doing that. My pocketbook may not like it though!
