Do all my MBs open my resort door?

Hi - When I was onsite, split stay, April 2015, I had 2 sets of MagicBands. Only the MB that was sent for the particular resort would open the door according to the CM at check in. (I don't doubt that that was inaccurate info, but he was adamant that only the MB sent for that exact resort reservation would open the hotel door.)

Is that true today (if it ever was)? I.e., if I have a split stay coming up, do I have to bring both MagicBands in order to open the door to the (onsite) resort room? Both the resort reservation, tickets, MagicBands are all in MDE. Same question for my kids and DH who are not the lead guest.

I'm hoping I can use a band from a prior trip (its active in MDE) - for everything (park entrance, FP and opening the hotel room door).

TIA!!

Maybe
Maybe not
The resorts use a database system for room access and they have different data bases, not shared
Sometimes the bands serial number links in the database automatically and sometimes they don't
But that doesn't mean the CM at check in can't link any band you want to use to be sure it can open your door, they can
Just ask at check in for them to confirm it opens your door . It's no problem

I always bring extra magic bands from prior trips with me. I don't know if this is always the case, but at my last stays at Beach Club and POFQ all of my magic bands would open our room door. On our last day at POFQ my magic band from that trip for some reason stopped opening the door, but I was able to grab a different band and it worked fine. Just bring them with you and give it a try!

I now have 13 MBs. I tried them all on my room door in feb. all but the earliest one worked. Don't know what's up with the outlier but the point is that 12 of them worked. :)

And the CM only saw one of them.

All magic bands that are active on your account will work assuming the battery is still good (about 3 years it starts to die)

It was my understanding that the battery only impacted the long range capabilities of the MB thus the battery shouldn't impact the RFID chip for room doors.
I constantly have issues with my account/bands opening my resort room door. I have 30+ magic bands and it amazes me that some will work and some won't. No rhyme or reason. The CM at the front desk has a heck of a time getting them to work as well. Once they deactivated all of my bands except one so only one band would work...however, they didn't tell me that so I had a hard time getting into the Parks! Always check your account.

We had a split stay in February and got 2 sets of MBs (have another 3 at home). We took both sets. They both did not open the room at AKL (only one did) but both opened at POR.

The database for MB's is a centralized database so all bands that are enabled enjoy the same access.
Perhaps the database needs a bit of tweaking. I can't tell you how many times I have had problems. Hopefully, Disney works to fix this.

The most often complaint that i've heard of are bands that weren't properly provisioned to accounts.

all active ones SHOULD work. Unless you have personally deactivated them, or they are not properly linked to the account, or read by the scanner.

I always find it interesting that Disney CMs onsite sometimes give guests such blatantly incorrect information. Most front desk CMs appear to know the deal with magic bands.

And not just the magic bands. If you have any RFID cards attached to your account they should work too. I can open resort doors with my annual pass card.

While the battery inside the Magic Band shouldn't affect its ability to open room doors, if the battery inside the scanner mounted on the door is dead, none of your bands or cards will work on it.

If you are getting no light at all on the door scanner, then it is possible the door scanner battery is dead. If you get a red light, the band may be deactivated or may not be reading the account properly (or you're at the wrong room). If you get a greenish-yellow light, the door is bolted from the inside.

Yes.

Agreed.

I have no idea why that one band wouldn't open my door. All the rest of them did (I stood outside opening and closing the door until I cycled through all of them, then retried that one). And they are all on my account. It was a grey one given when I couldn't find my sent one at checkin, and it was our very first trip on MBs. The sent band from that trip, which I found 30 minutes later, worked just fine. 'tis a mystery!

We did a split stay in February - GF first and AOA second. When we got to AOA, only 1 MB opened the door. No problem, we were all together and it was bedtime. Next morning we went to MK and all MBs worked to get in the park, but none of them had charge to the room access. We stopped at the MB customer service building (near the barber shop) and had an exuberant and highly confident young man say "no problem, I can get this working in a flash." Three trips back to the customer service center and it appears all was well. And, since we had "lost our FP+" as they had already expired, the nice young man gave us some pixie dust--yeah, we had the golden ticket for the MK that day, for any ride we wanted.

When we got back to AOA that night, every MB worked to get in the room..we tested them all...except mine, you know, the one who actually paid for the trip for everyone....and has been to WDW too many times to admit. Anyhow, since we had 4 of 5 working MBs for door access, no problem. The fun part was having my underage niece having to charge a beer for me on her MB!

Well, sort of..... :).

The big gotcha: The hotel KEY systems are totally separate, based on the individual HOTEL computer system. Sometimes, they fail to properly download info from the Main systems. When this happens? Your MBs (probably ALL of them), will fail to unlock your room.

When this occurs? Standard Hotel procedure is to "Reset", or "Reprogram" your MB. Don't do it. Just get a key card. There is nothing wrong with your MB - the problem is the LOCAL hotel computer system, and amateur "Resetting/Reprogramming" could result in BAD side effects for all of the CENTRALIZED uses of your MB.

Reference: issue occured to us, April 2015. After multiple local Hotel failures to "fix it"? We just asked for key cards. All was well - and the hotel folks sort of admitted that staff had been fooling with the LOCAL system :).

ALL MBs are created equal, when active. They are basic KEYS into the Central WDW database. The problem? MANY separate, LOCAL databases still exist - they depend on linkage to the REAL database. Local hotel systems are great examples of "mirrored" databases. So are Restaurants (which can be a GOOD thing - when the main DB fails, these folks have a daily COPY of valid reservations).

Just to add a further twist to this discussion, those who have AP's will find that their AP card will also open their hotel room door.

We have different MBs that we have decorated from different trips. We bring them all and wear them on different days with different outfits. Use them to enter the room, enter the parks, etc.

Edit to add: The cards and bands active on your MDE account will access all the infor from your MDE account.
