Do all kids drink milk?

I have always hated milk. It is disgusting. DD has never been a fan either.

But, but...it does a body good. Doesn't it?

No, they don't. I think cows milk is the most disgusting substance that humans choose to consume. It is great for baby cows.

DS won't touch it either. I finally had the lie to his school that he was allergic so the lunch people would stop forcing it on him.

DD likes it, I guess. She'll maybe have a few oz a day. She is 2 though so there isn't a lot of options. She likes it before nap.

I do cook with it and use a little on cereal but it has to be skim. Dd gets whole milk. I buy organic 1/2 gallons that we rarely finish before they spoil.

My kids don't drink milk. We'll use it on cereal and to cook with, maybe an occaissional glass of chocolate milk. I was also one of those kids who had white milk forced on them and I hated it so I never made my kids drink it. Too many other sources of calcium out there to make milk a requirement.

Point of interest, unless you drink the milk in your cereal bowl after you eat the cereal, you are losing out on the "vitamins and minerals" your cereal has been "fortified" with. The Today Show did a piece on this a while back. Apparently, the V & M are sprayed on the cereal and wash off in the milk. So you have to drink the milk to get the full nutritive value of the cereal.

Bummer huh?

I have always found that parents that don't like milk have kids that don't like milk. Subconsciously or Consciously transferring their dislike to the kids?

I grew up in a big milk family, you had milk for dinner, no question asked. I love love love milk. Sometimes I skip it for dinner now and drink water instead, but that's just because I'm trying to drink more water.

When I go on vacation and have 2 or 3 days with no milk my body starts to crave it and that first glass I get after that gets chugged!! My girls are the same way.

Interesting theory. My mom absolutely loves milk. My dad would also frequently drink it too. I did buy it for DD but other than having some with cereal, she didn't really care for it.

I've recently started reading about soy products, and frankly some of it's pretty scary. I'll stick to regular old milk, thank you. This is only one article, but I have read the actual study being referenced which is why I chose to quote it.

"Health-conscious Americans believe in the benefits of tofu, infant formula and other food products made from soybeans and soy extract. But their assumption is now being called into question by Jill Schneider, associate professor of biological sciences at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

In a study of hamsters completed under Schneider's direction, it was recently found that a component of soy beans - isoflavones - significantly accelerated the onset of puberty in the rodents.

These findings, which are similar to the results reported by labs which have experimented with rats, might be relevant to humans, Schneider says. She points out that many babies who are allergic to cow's milk are fed soy-based formulas which contain isoflavones. Isoflavones, she says, can act like estrogen, a natural hormone important in the development of both male and female humans."

Just an observation from the people I know.

Someone mentioned "nut milk". What the deuce is that? You can "milk" nuts now?

Wait...that didn't come out right.

This makes me think of Meet the Fockers=

I have nipples Greg, can you milk me? :lmao:

Sorry, I just think that is so funny. Imagine a nut with nipples :lmao: :rotfl2:

Mine do. They can have milk, water or a lemonade I make with Stevia. Those are the only choices here.

I only like milk if cookies are involved.

Wrong here! I can't stand milk, neither can DH.. my kids like it! I wish I did like milk, I can hold my nose and drink a small glass really fast, but I don't like to taste it.

It's not an iron clad theory....;)

Just wondering what the people that don't like milk drink with cookies? Nothing is better than chocolate chip cookies and milk!! :goodvibes

My sister and I drink gallons of milk a week. It's really all I drink. I especially enjoy Ovaltine in it.

I don't drink milk with cookies either. And I don't like Oreos. I know, I am a weirdo ;) I really have more of a fat tooth as opposed to a sweet tooth.

I'm good then because I do drink the cereal milk.

Eh to each their own. We will all keep on drinking milk (1% only of course) and will enjoy it. I don't buy the bit that we shouldn't drink milk because it comes from a cow any more than I believe that we shouldn't eat meat because it comes from a cow. Because truly we don't need meat to survive. Or sweets or pizza :scared1: or chicken or lots of other items.

No one in my family shows any sign of osteo and the women live to be in their mid 80's and above. Maybe we are just blessed with good genes but who knows.

By the way, I don't believe that milk will make you fat unless you drink whole milk. Skim certainly won't.

My 2 sons used to go through 6 gallons of milk a week!:scared1: Thankfully, we are now down to 1 1/2 gallons a week!

Reading another thread got me to thinking. Do I have the only two children on the planet that don't drink milk? They are 13 and 11 and they pretty much never had it.

Youngest is allergic to milk but we always have rice milk in the house. I use it in potatoes, soups, baked goods, etc. but he doesn't drink it. He will drink a 32oz carton of chocolate rice milk maybe three times a year.

Oldest doesn't drink milk now and never has. She has never liked the taste of it. She does eat yogurt and cheese. She just tried chocolate almond milk for the first time and loved it so she might start drinking that.

Neither one of my kids eat cereal either so there isn't a need for milk.

Are my kids alone in this one?

my DS has no milk, no coldcut type cheese, no yogurt, no ANYTHING (not really, just seems that way sometimes)
Anyhoo,
he eats ice cream!! (used to get awful reaction but outgrew it thankfully, huge welts if he was touched by any dairy as a child, very scary indeed! (we LIVED on Nutramagen, for like 3 years!!!)
He drinks OJ and water, crystal light, soda and LOVES those crazy icee drinks (just had dentist, no cavities!, which is good cause it is so hard getting calcium in him) but definitely never ever milk!
They used to have liquid calcium, then stopped now its huge pills ( i take) but a definite no go for him.
I use nf milk and thats not even usual in our home.
