DS is 8 1/2 months and for the past 2 weeks or so (especially this past week) he has been in such a bad mood because he is trying to learn to crawl.

He can scoot along/roll along a little but he is obviously not making as much progress as he would like. He gets himself so upset. He is just so motivated to get to things out of his reach and when he can't get to them he starts having a meltdown. I am sure it is very frustrating for him but is it normal for them to get so worked up over it?

He is also really starting to display a temper when he can't get to things he wants or we won't give him something we have that he wants (he really wanted my pen while I was making the grocery list yesterday).

I want my sweet-tempered baby back! I am afraid he has already been replaced with a toddler. How did it happen so fast?

Yep, all perfectly normal. :) Nathan is at that stage where he's starting to understand what he wants and if he can't GET it he gets frustrated. All babies go through that as they go through developmental milestones.

He'll be crawling soon and I'm sure that will make him a happier little guy. :)

My older son would get very frustrated - he was very persistant and focused on one task. My younger son just sort of gave up, shrugged it off and decided to play with something else.

They talk about the terrible twos, but I found age one much harder with DS #1 because he seemed to want to do so many things that he wasn't capable of and he would get so frustrated.

Now for us it was DD #2 who got the most irritated, since she could see her big sis doing things, and she wanted to do whatever her sister did (still true)

Both mine got a bit pissed when they couldnt reach what they wanted... but they just tried harder (and sometimes mommy gave them the toy that was just out of reach..... lol)

So yes, I would say it is normal........

I think personality plays a big role. DS#1 still gets angry when things go wrong, DS#2 would be more likely to shrug it off or just cry about it.

Michael is going through the same stage. He kinda knows how to crawl though, he just doesn't WANT to. I've seen him do it a couple of times and yes he will get frustrated when he can't reach something. His problem is, he would rather WALK. He pulls himself up on the coffee table or on one of his toys and just kinda makes his way across until he runs out of something to hold on to and then he falls down and gets mad. He'll be 9 months old this week and I keep thinking he should be crawling by now and it worries me that he's not. But I get the feeling that he's thinking in his head that he doesn't want crawl because he can get around better by walking so he wants to just go straight to walking. Then again, I'm also worried because he hasn't gotten any teeth yet. He goes to the dr for his check up next week though so I can ask if all that is normal.

My girls did, especially my oldest one.

Travis never did crawl, at least not like baby Pebbles, on hands and knees. He "pulled" himself using his right arm, reach and drag himself along. He was standing and walking along furniture at a very young age and was walking at 9 months, or should I say running? He just took off one day. Some babies never crawl because they'd rather walk, I think.

Thanks!

I was wondering if it was common for babies to do this or if I am just looking at a personality thing developing. He appears to be pretty strong willed lately. I think my Mom would call this justice! ;)

PA - I would not worry about the teeth. I was just doing some reading and there are lots of kids that don't have teeth even by their first birthday.

They do tend to get frustrated when they can't do what they want. Sometimes those little minds just get ahead of what their bodies can do :)

Their personalities really start showing more and more. There was very little doubt about what my youngest DD felt when she was that age, she let everyone know
