I guess I'm much more reserved but do ADULTS really dress up as pirates?

I'd feel very self conscience and perhaps a bit silly.

Not all but more than you would think!!! Even the crew dresses up as pirates so nothing to feel silly or self conscious about...they encourage it!!!

I wouldn't say we're self-conscious in my family, but we're not dressing up. For us, dressing up in costume (unless in a show) pretty much ended at round puberty.

On our cruise it seemed like nearly everyone was dressed up on Pirate Night. A lot more people dressed for Pirate Night than did for Formal Night.

There wasn't an option for my answer. We dressed up a bit when we sailed with our kids, however, DH and I did not dress up when it was just the two of us a couple of weeks ago. :goodvibes

Are more dressed up than not dressed up or is it more 50/50.

My fellow cruiser had a funny look when I mentioned that adults dress up for it.

I didn't but dh did. He looked fab

We came out of our stateroom and a little girl in her pram had dropped her shoe. Dh picked up the shoe and gave it to her. She looked up to him and said "are you a real pirate". It made his night :flower3:

We were married on the Disney Magic the year before last. We travelled with 20 other family members and we let them know before hand that we had two rules for the trip (hey, we were paying, so we made the rules).

1) They could go their own way all day, but had to be at dinner

and

2) They HAD to dress up for Pirate Night.

We took extra hats and props for those we knew would balk at it.

We all had a blast. DH, my nephews and my SIL really got into it and talked like a Pirate all day long. We even got our waiters in on the act. They had lots of fun! Who cares what other people think. We're there to have fun. If they don't like it, they are just stuffy unfun people. Disney is meant to make every adult a kid again! That's what makes the trips so special. It is a time to let loose and just have fun for the sake of fun!

There was a couple on their honeymoon that sat at the table behind us that actually rented professional costumes for the trip. They looked amazing!

Not me! I grew up at renaissance faires, dressing up for midieval times, you name it. I have a whole trunk of goodies, most of which I pick up at the regular store when I see it has possibilities.

All it takes is complete commitment! If you are happy in your own skin, no one else will question it.

Then again, this is the ONLY way I will 'snorkel' or swim in the ocean:

Also, I went around all over the mall dressed like an old Wild West Saloon girl to raise my 'bail' when I was 'arrested' for Musclar Dystrophy Association last year! This outfit in the photo (taken in front of our classic country radio station van where I work), not kidding, 99% of it came from the mall!

See the parasol I made by hand? Love Michaels...

I have a costume and have made one for my granddaughter for our cruise next month. DH wears a pirate shirt and hat. I have items for everyone else in our group. Wore my costume om my last cruise in November. It is lots of fun to dress up. But nobody judges whether you do or don't.

We dressed up. My uncle last cruise did the most costume. I had a piratey skirt along with big pirate earrings. My mom had a skull and cross bone shirt. This next cruise, we are looking at it. I don't have kids.

DS12 and I will be dressing up for our first pirate night. pirate: I don't get self conscious over stuff like that.

DH and I don't go all out with costumes but we do wear Mickey pirate shirts purchased onboard.

May your swash never buckle.

YES! My family dressed up! It was so much fun. I ran in to a lot of adults that were so disappointed that they didn't know what a big deal it was. And three different people actually went back to their rooms and found striped shirts they had and changed in to so they could be part of the fun! Me and my daughter got our pic taken with Captain Sparrow. We were all dressed like pirates. I call it our family portrait :rotfl:

Yes we dress up and we have no children in our group :thumbsup2
