I've been sorting through toys today, trying to "downsize". My daughter is 8 1/2 and still doesn't play Barbies. She plays American Girl. Do you think she's past the age where she will play? Or is it coming up? When I was young, basically all I played was Barbie. I saved all my Barbie stuff, dreaming of the day when my daughter would play with it. She used to occasionally play with them, but so far this summer hasn't touched them. I have 4 plastic bins of stuff, a Motor-home (the old one-3 feet long) and a wooden 3 story house. I'm thinking of selling them in our schools fall sale. It takes up so much space and collects dust/spiders. But if there is hope she will play, I'll keep them. I just don't think it's going to happen. It makes me sad to get rid of the stuff!!

I loved my Barbie's, but stopped playing with them around 9. I too saved all mine and the accessories and looked forward to my daughter playing with them, but she was never interested.:confused3 I sold all of it in a garage sale. I didn't want to, but when I saw how excited the little girl was who got it all then I felt better.:thumbsup2

My dd is 6.5 and can't be bothered with them.

I played with Barbie dolls until I was about seven.
Then I started playing with Bratz dolls until I was 11.

I think I played forever, but that was 30 years ago..\
My daughter is 8, and it seems to have passed. She is now into Bratz, Webkinz, and Murder mystery (don't even ask LOL) ;)

I think your daughter bypassed the age..

my DD will be 10 next month and still plays w/ hers sometimes.

DD recently cleaned out her "toys" too. She said goodbye to Barbie, Polly Pocket, Littlest Pet Shop and a few other odds and ends. She is 11 and we still have baby dolls and Bratz. But if she hasn't started playing with Barbies I agree that she probably won't.

I had the old motor home too!! Wasn't it yellow with a big open top? (it's been a while...)

I guess all kids are different. I played with barbies for what seemed forever. My 10 y/o dd never had an interest but my almost 8 y/o loves all dolls and shows no sign of slowing down.

Yes thats the motorhome! I also had the Cottage, but it was in such bad shape I threw it away. They really don't make Barbies like they used to. I guess I'm going to get rid of them :sad2:

For my 7th birthday I got the remote control corvette, and for Christmas I got the Cottage. When I was 9 I got the Dream House for Christmas, and at a garage sale we bought the motor home. My Barbies were stylin'.

I actually still have all my Barbie stuff, I saved a lot of the boxes too. Everything is all packed up and stored in the guest room at my parent's house. I just wish I hadn't decided the Barbies needed new hairstyles. :rolleyes1 At least Aloha Barbie avoided that fate.

What's wrong with today's kids? :rotfl: BFF and I played Barbies until we were about 14. Once we started high school, sometimes we'd still get them out and just change their clothes and comb their hair - we weren't really playing. :rotfl2: My DD has had Barbies her whole life and takes them out maybe 4 times a year. It is hearbreaking!

Who are these non-Barbie-loving creatures and how did we wind up with them?

I "inherited" several dolls from the early '60s when I was little. My collection of played-with dolls totals close to 70 dolls. And then there are the china cabinet dolls . . . :rolleyes1

My DD's name is Erika so when they did the Princess & Pauper thing, and the one was named Erika . . . and had brown hair . . . and blue eyes: A dream come true: My daughter was a Barbie doll! :woohoo: So of course, she got the whole thing for that, the castle, the wedding set, all the dolls and all their clothes. And it sits unhappily in the back of her closet. :sad2:

If I could find a Dream House (the old one)--I think I'd still buy it because I wanted that thing SO BAD! I played until I was about 14 also. One of the last things I got was the Barbie and The Rockers. I had the band set/stage. Me and my BFF would play but we would always swear to never tell anybody. Remember the McDonalds? That was so cool. I also had the Dream Store--It had department store counters with mannequin heads and a full size mirror. Those were the days!!!

My girls never played with Barbies or dolls.:confused3 So if she hasn't played with them yet....probably safe to get rid of them.:thumbsup2

I loved playing with Barbies and probably played with them until I was 12. My Dfi daughters are 10 and will not even touch them and they never really have. Instead they like the Littlest Pet Shops and Webkinz!!

One tip. Before you get rid of them- put them in a bag and put them in the basement. If after a month there is no request for them. Toss them. I have been the victim of the "mom where is my...." one too many times after I have tossed things.

But on Barbies, my dd is 10 and she doesn't play with them. Hasn't since about the time she was 7. I think I'll box them up myself. I could use the space.

No kids but I babysit for a girl that is 8. She will play with the Barbie's on occassion but she now is more interested in littlest pet shop & polly pocket's. Her younger sister who is 6 is now inheirting her Barbie's and their mom is happy. She has alot of Barbie stuff from when she was little and is passing it on to the girls.

For me I played with Barbies until I was 10. I still have a nice collection of Ballerina's barbies that I display but that is the extent of my collection.

I played with mine for a long time. I think I played with them with my friends until I was 10, but secretly played with them until I was 13. :)

I have to say I was more into my weeble airport than I was my barbies. :)

There's no rule that all little girls have to like Barbies. I NEVER had/wanted Barbies. I had My Little Ponies, but stopped playing with those when I was 7 or so. My friends played with Barbies until about 7 or 8, tops. I'd say 8 is too old for a kid to start getting into them.
