DME won't pull your luggage after 11pm??

THanks Edd for the update. I have to wonder what would happen if a guest was told they had to go back and get their own bags after 11:00 (2300 hrs.) If they ignored the CM and just boarded the bus, you would think that their luggage would make it to the resort the morning. I almost wish I could make a quick trip down to test it out.

That is EXACTLY what my sister and I were doing!! (I am the OP). In the end, our DME person had a pow-wow with other DME people at the desk, I made them look at my flight info (my flight had been completely cancelled, so I didn't even know what flight my bags would be coming in on). They ended up agreeing to get our bags for us. But if they hadn't agreed, I would have told her to let the bags go to Lost Luggage, while we boarded the bus.

Sorry if you already said this but, where exactly where you staying and how long did it take until you received your bags?

I was staying at POFQ. Got to the hotel right around midnight, and called for my bags when I woke up at about 6:30am. That early, got them really quick after calling for them!

HTH!

We are staying at POR. I wouldn't mind at all if I could call at that time and have it delivered. That would actually be perfect. DH is now saying that we may be happier if we get our own luggage just for our own peace of mind...

Talking with her I would bet my last $100.00 if you come in after 2300 hours your luggage will head to Disney if you don't pick it up. I have seen CM's out there looking for Disney checked baggage real late at night. She even told me if you want it when it gets to the resort call the front desk and tell them you want it delivered no matter the time. They will get it to you as soon as they can.

We did tell them we wanted our luggage delivered whenever it arrived, but they just left a voice mail--no real phone call. So we only saw the light when we got up in the morning.

Thanks for the information, Edd!

Okay, everyone arriving late - print out Edd's post # 93 in this thread, and bring it with you... in your carry-on luggage, of course, and present it to any CM who tells you you have to get your own bags.

Just be prepared if the CM tells you not to expect your bags until the next morning. It wouldn't be a reach for Disney to wait until all the bags arrive and then only make one or two runs with the luggage truck.

Unfortuantely the more passengers DME can convince to get their own bags the easier it will be for Disney to justify closing the sorting facility at 11 or 12 and holding bags until 8-9a the next morning.

If I arrive at MCO very late at night, I would want to be on the very first available motorcoach to my resort. I would not want to waste time and effort detouring to baggage claim, waiting for our bags, dragging them through the airport (possibly from one corner of the massive building to the other), and dealing with our bags at the resort.

If our bags spend the night at a sorting facility at MCO and aren't put on a baggage truck to WDW until the next morning, that's fine with me. I wouldn't want our bags delivered until the next morning anyway. (I certainly wouldn't want a knock on the door at 3 a.m.)

Now, having said that, I'm sure there are some DME guests who have checked in at their WDW resort at midnight and have been livid that their bags weren't delivered to their room by one minute after midnight.

The DME packet that Disney sends out says nothing about what happens if you arrive late at night. They really need to update the booklet.

This is the big decision we need to make as we arrive at 10:55 pm. Do we really want to retrieve our own luggage? No. But I do want to be absolutely positively sure that I could have by luggage by 7 am. I don't think that is unreasonable but I guess I am really being a worry wart at this time. DH says he doesn't want the hassle of worrying and it just makes sense to get the luggage when we arrive. I would like to scoot right on the bus. Now, I guess if we went right on the bus and the bus sits there for awhile waiting for other guests, that would really irk me as we probably could have gotten our luggage. :confused3

I am sure hoping there are others who are in the same boat who will post what has happened upon their DME arrival.

But I do want to be absolutely positively sure that I could have by luggage by 7 am.
Out of curiosity, why would you "absolutely positively" want your luggage by 7 a.m.?

We would still be asleep at 7 a.m. if we didn't get to the room until after midnight. And we would have carry-ons with anything we would need overnight, including toiletries and clothes for the next morning.

I realize there are some people who can't relax until they are reunited with their luggage. For the rest of us, a small carry-on bag resolves the timing issue of DME luggage delivery.

Great idea Katie,

It doesn't bother me for anyone to take that post and show it to the CM, for verification, if you have problems.

If there are any more problems let me know and I will make contact with her again. Actually I have her phone number and name so will be able to find her easy this time.

I think if Disney leaves a voice mail the phone has to ring in the room a few times before it goes to voice mail. I could be wrong.

Horace,

The luggage will not spend a night at a sorting facility at MCO. They will be at your resort later in the evening. Might be quite a bit later, but they will be there.

You know you don't have to tag all your bags for Disney delivery. You might not tag one bag that has everything you need the next morning and pick that up letting the rest go to Disney. The untagged bag will not get picked up by Disney. That would save you the necessity of lugging a whole bunch of luggage to DME, but give you the stuff you might need the next morning.

Well, we have a family of 5 and there is just so much we are going to fit onto a carryon for all of us. Certain toiletries of mine just won't go into the carryon like my hairspray - and I NEED that! ;) I give 7 am as a good time for us to make sure we have everything to get ready the next day. We may be sleeping then too but I really need the reassurance of having it by that time if we happen to all be up. My kids are early risers, even when they go down late.

If we need 2 carryons just to fit all our jammies, nighttime stuff, and the next day things, then that kind of defeats the purpuse of having DME transport our luggage. We would like to either having our "hands free" for the kids or just lug it all ourselves.

Make sense to you? Maybe not, but that's just me. :rolleyes1

I'm not sure about 7a but some passengers may want their luggage prior to leaving for the parks for the day. Some passengers may have clothing they want to hang up. Some passengers may have checked golf clubs and have a morning tee time. Some passengers may have checked small folding coolers and bottles of sun tan lotion. Some passengers may want all their liquid HBA before they shower in the morning. Once you can't put everything you need in your carry on bags you might as well get all your bags. I understand airlines sometimes misdirect luggageand in that case the passenger might have to purchase stuff in the resort.

My concern would be if Disney decided to suspend luggage service at night. The first luggage truck might not leave until 8-9a and luggage might not be available until 10a.

There is some indication that late (past midnight) buses are held until passengers have time to grab their bags and until later flights land. I'd probably book an airport hotel if my flight is shceduled to be that late.

Lewis,

I did not get any indication that luggage service was going to be suspended for the night. She said it would work all night, but there would be far less employees doing the work. That would take the luggage longer getting to the resorts.

If you are impatient and want to get to the resort, the taxi system is the fastest way out and also is cheaper than an airport hotel for the night.

Maybe I'm cynical but step one is to "encourage" late passengers to get their own bags. Step two is to stop late night luggage handling due to lack of demand.

I'm not sure how a taxi is cheaper than an airport hotel.:confused3 I can usually get an airport hotel, through Priceline, for around $50. That's less then I'd be paying at WDW. Makes sense if my flight arrives after 10p. I might use some of the savings and use a car service to get me to WDW the next morning. Has to be quicker then waiting for the hotel shuttle then waiting for a DME bus.

If you get a priceline hotel, if they have a shuttle, you have got to go and come back to the airport to pick up the DME, another 45 minutes plus the go and come. Taxi $50.00 priceline $50.00 time is in favor of taking a taxi to the resort and not the DME the next day. If the hotel doesn't have a shuttle you would be spending another $15.00 to $30.00 to get to the hotel.

I doubt if you would find a priceline $50.00 at one of the airport hotels.

I think it is worth the extra money to wake up in the Disney hotel than an airport hotel and have to travel to Disney for another hour.

Well, I just got the $25.00 Ding! Nashville to Orlando for May 9th!! So, me and hubby are flying instead of driving for our quick trip. We'll be arriving at MCO at 11:50pm, and if our yellow tags arrive in time we will be using them and insisting that we don't want our luggage till the next day.

I'll be sure to let everyone know what they say.

We're staying at All-Star Sports. It's just two of us so I plan on having a carryon with bedtime stuff and our clothes for the next morning. I think the only toughie will be finding a less than 3 oz shaving cream for hubbie, but everything else will be easy.

I'll have my laptop with me, so will be able to log in from the bus.
