DME won't pull your luggage after 11pm??

I agree completely. But, if this is going to be SOP, then Disney really should have it in print someplace.
I agree that if luggage transfers are not available for flights that arrive after 11:00 p.m., that should be clearly explained to guests who are considering Disney's Magical Express.

There's nothing about it at the official "Complimentary Airport Service — Disney's Magical Express Transportation" page at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/resorts/benefitDetail?id=BenefitDMEDetailPage

The page says, "Upon landing at Orlando International Airport, skip baggage claim and proceed to the Disney Welcome Center. Disney will collect your luggage and deliver it directly to your Disney Resort hotel room."

There's absolutely nothing along the lines of, "This service is not available for flights arriving after 11:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m."

And there's nothing about it at the Disney's Magical Express FAQ at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/common/helpFAQ?id=HelpFAQDMEPage

The only reference to "11:00 p.m." at the FAQ is the following:

Q. What are the hours of operation and location of the Disney Welcome Center?

A. The Disney Welcome Center is in the Main Terminal Building of Orlando International Airport on the B side on Level 1. The hours are 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., but we will be happy to extend those hours if you have booked Disney's Magical Express Service and your flight is scheduled to arrive after 11:00 p.m.

I too would be very upset if, upon getting to the front of the line the Disney Welcome Center (DME check-in counter), I was told to go the opposite corner of the airport to retrieve my luggage and then to drag it back to the Disney's Magical Express area -- even though I had used the yellow tags and packed a carry-on overnight bag.

While I'm not doubting that the OP accurately described their experience, I'm still not convinced that this is now the official, permanent Disney's Magical Express policy. And can't believe Disney would do something so stupid and so hostile to arriving guests.

The hours of operation of the Welcome Center could vary, but luggage could be picked up all night when it arrives and shipped to Disney. The only thing that would happened is that your luggage would be picked off the carousel belts by the airline employee and place in storage, on the baggage floor, until the CM's picked it up the next morning to ship to Disney.

I e-mailed quite a few of your comments on these boards to the deputy airport director. No one at the airport wants to take the blame for a new policy they know nothing about. He is anxious to see them.

According to my calculations there were 26 commercial aircraft landings after 2300 last night. This has an error factor of plus or minus 4.

Morning Edd......all I can say is 'you need to get a life'!!!!:rotfl2: Pretty soon, MCO is going to charge you rent! I can just see it now...you sitting/standing there, late at night, counting the flights arriving. Too funny.
I really need to search you out when I'm arriving, or departing, at MCO the next time!!!
Thanks for checking into all this for us.

If you figure an average of 100 passengers per flight, thats 2600 passengers, and even if only 10% of them are ME passengers, that's 260 for the ME buses after 11pm, that's 5 buses worth and up to 520 pieces of luggage.

(Totally unscientific reasoning)

I found the landings last night on the computer. That is about the right average for the late landings. Here is the breakdown. Air Canada - 1. American - 2. Airtran - 2, Continental - 1, Delta - 3, Northwest - 2, Southwest - 3, United - 4, U.S. Air - 3.

Okay, now I feel better!!! Heading to the airport at the time of night would have been way over the top....even to get info for the DISers!!!! :surfweb: is much more understandable!!!!!

Charge him rent? Nah - they're going to need to put Edd on the payroll!
Seriously - Edd, thank you for all the research you do!

OP here. Thank, Edd, for checking into this. I had read through ALL the info on the DME website, and read the DME booklet cover to cover while on my busride the night this all happened. I found NOTHING about 11pm and later being excluded, but the poor DME counter girl was so apologetic, and the group of them tried to be so helpful figuring out what I should do.......

I agree that if Disney decided to not pick up people's luggage after 11pm, they should definitely have that info somewhere in the written materials -- and it should be not just in there, but OBVIOUS. I just wanted what the literature said -- my luggage to magically appear in my room (the next morning, of course!). I did NOT want to trek all the way back to baggage claim, and then all the way back to the DME counter again. No way. Would have explored taxi options first. I was TIRRRRRRRED!

If it helps at all, this occured at just after 11pm on Tuesday, 3/13. I wonder if I should also present this to DME themselves. If there is a new rule, and it is being misinterpreted and/or misrepresented into THIS, they need to know about it.

Any thoughts?
Beth

I think the situation should be presented to Disney ME officials pointing out that the airport has made no new policies that stop them from picking up your luggage after 11:00 pm. You might point out that the question was asked all the the way to the top at the airport for an explanation of the policy. No official, at the airport, knows why Disney came up with their explanation. Personally I think that is big corporation not wanting to claim responsibility for a serious decision.

I will still be on the look out for anyone who might have come up with that policy at the airport. I feel 100% sure I found the right answer, but you never know what will come up.

Yeah. If only I could find the way to CONTACT them!! I prefer emailing, because I get a written tracking. Anyone know how? I tried the Contact Us box at Disneyworld's site, but it doesn't give an option for DME.

Shoot, I could be a test subject on the 3rd of April, returning April 5th if I wasn't so broke right now. Got a Ding! fair from BHM to MCO for 140 RT including taxes and the flight lands at 11:50 pm.

Also saw that Ft. Wilderness had two nights full hookup available for 178 with taxes.

If everybody would be willing to pitch in, I'd be happy to find out if this is permanent policy, or a one night problem they had!!

Although I probably wouldn't have yellow tags in time, so it wouldn't be a true test.

(I can get the same deal April 24th - 26th, the tags probably would make it in time for that, the price is actually less, 131 for the flight and 131 for the campsite)

Hey, I'll suffer all in the name of research :-)

Hurry, the Ding! expires at 9:30 CDT :dance3:

So what do you all think we need to do if we are landing (right after our wedding reception) at 11:50?? :confused3 Should we not put the yellow tags or should we put the tags on and hope for the best? I don't mind waiting until the morning for our bags - but Icertainly don't want my luggae lost on my honeymoon. :bride:

I'm sure sometime in the next 3 months we'll have official confirmation. Give Disney your flight information, if you get yellow tags without any arrival time restrictions use them.

Unclaimed luggage winds up in the airlines unclaimed luggage office. Yellow tagged unclaimed luggage gets claimed by DME representatives who send the bags over to WDW.

I guess Disney could be shutting down DME luggage service at midnight. Not sure how early you'd get your bags the next morning if Disney does that. Right now the bags are delivered to the resorts some time in the middle of the night and guests can have their bags delivered as soon as they wake up.

If it weren't for my last semester of nursing school right now, I'd chip in AND JOIN YOU!

My goodness. This does really worry me. I did all my research on DME about arriving fairly late at night and was reassured by the baggage delivery service. I will have 3 young children with me (2, 6, & 7) and really didn't want to wait for our baggage.

Now, this is very interesting....our flight is scheduled to arrive at 10:58 pm. What might that mean? Because we arrive before 11 pm we can still have our baggage delivered?

I really hope this is all confirmed one way or another before our trip in June. I am now worrying over something I felt very content about previously. :confused3

Who knows at this point -- My flight had been scheduled to arrive at about 9pm!! (It got cancelled, I got rerouted, my luggage most likely was getting rerouted a whole different way)...I ended up landing at MCO at about 10:55pm. I was at the DME counter after a potty stop at 11:08pm, talking to the counter person. Begging her to let DME get our luggage. So who knows. Instead of calling, if you can find a way to email them, do that and print their reply. Then if you get the same info I did upon arrival, you can whip out your email!

Yeah, sure, I'll throw in $10 in the name of research (offer void if an official policy change is published prior to your departure, of course ;))

No new postings since last night. We are going the end of May and plan to arrive at around 11:50, haven't got the flight yet (waiting on Southwest). There are six of us and I will not be a hapy camper if we have to drag all that luggage. This is one of the reasons we use DME. We carry on stuff we need for the night and the next day. I was thinking about getting a limo to surprise the family but was hesitant because of having to pick up the luggage. This just might convince me. Now if Disney would pick up the bags in the morning then that would be fine.

Has anyone actually PM'd Tyler about this?? I noticed he replied on a couple of Transportation posts last night, but did not chime in on this one.

I would really like to hear what he has to say, but it probably should be another moderator that contacts him personally.
