Will we get to our resort quicker if we have carry on only or doesn't matter since other guests will have checked baggage?

other guests picking up luggage will not make trip longer other if they are waiting for bus to be so full. carry ons or checked bags go under the bus.

Your timing will be the same. What does make the trip longer is when a lot of other guests, on your bus, have checked luggage stowed beneath the bus. That means that now the driver has to hop off the bus, take out the luggage, hand it off to each guest, and get back on the bus. If it's one bag or so, it isn't a huge deal. But, if 4 families have 4 bags each? Adds a bit of time to the trip for everyone.
But, there's nothing you can do about that.

Since the bus doesn't wait for specific guests to arrive it makes no difference.
The bus you are on will pull out at it's scheduled time, not when specific guests are on.
If a guest doesn't get there before that bus leaves, they'll just go on the next one

Plus, I'd guess MOST guests use the yellow tags on their checked bags. Those travel all on their own to Disney, not on your bus

One would think most luggage would go on the luggage trucks! But man...if I had a dollar for every person I saw, attaching those yellow tags, to their checked bags, while in line for the bus, well, I would be rich!!
Then there was the time I was going to Pop. It was the last of three stops...was usually first. Well, the bus stopped at AKL first...where about 4 families got off. Then, we sat and waited until all their checked luggage was taken out from beneath the bus, and handed to each family....had to be about 20 bags there!! Took forever. Then off to CSR...only 2 families hopped off and had only 5 bags to claim.
I can't say why they all had checked bags with them. It was usually late morning/early afternoon, so it wasn't a timing issue. Who knows.
I just know that it happens...more than you would think.

I like it when you see the yellow tags on backpacks that were obviously "personal items" on the plane.

Similar to the gentleman at Princess who had the gear-bag sticker stuck to his shirt like he thought that's where it went.

I used to get mildly irritated when I'd see people dragging all of their checked luggage onto the bus. It seems like such a hassle and the loading and unloading would take up extra time. (I know...its my problem that it bothers me. Nobody's doing anything wrong so I need to get over it:). Then it dawned on me, we WILL have our checked luggage with us on our next trip. We are arriving late and staying at the Hyatt, then taking DME in the morning. Granted, I don't think all of those bringing their checked baggage on the DME bus are coming from the Hyatt, but it made me realize that everyone is traveling under different circumstances.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I get it. There are always going to situations where guests will have to have their bags with them. It's just that I've walked behind people who have just picked up their bags, at baggage claim. Then they go to DME, and once in the bus line, start putting on the yellow DME tags on the bags. And it's never just one bag! And I've tried explaining that they don't need to do that. But, after being yelled at, told to mind my own business, etc., I no longer say anything.
To each his own I guess. I'm just amazed at times.

I like seeing them getting put on the bags TO GO HOME:laughing:.

This makes me think of a question... We will be arriving late Friday and taking an early DME over to BWV on Saturday The rest of the family is flying in on Saturday and taking DME to BWV in the afternoon. Is there any reason that we couldn't send our checked bags (1 or 2, at most) with them? We are all flying SWA and the rest of the family will have extra yellow tags. The only minor downside is that we will have to wait until the evening (their flight lands at 3pm) to get our checked bags from their room. Is there any reason this wouldn't work? Our checked bags will mostly be non-perishable food and full-sized toiletries that can't go in the carryons, but nothing that we would need right away.

No reason at all! In fact, it's a great idea. Just pack your carry on bags with anything you'll need for that first night, and the next day. Should be easy if your bag is a good size.

I would love to see the looks on their faces when they realize that they have to take the bags off the bus and get them to their rooms themselves. :joker:

I had a full size carry on bag once...it had to be stowed beneath the bus. I had my tip in my hand, ready to go upon arrival at my resort. But...after the driver told us that gratuities are gratefully accepted for good service, I put it back in my pocket and stood there, waiting for my bag. Well....I watched as some guests started walking away. One mom asked her dh if they had to stop for their bags. Nope, he said. That's why he had put those yellow tags on!!! Another guest overheard this and told him that no, he had to get his own bags..that those yellow tags were supposed to be on the bag before they got to MCO!!! So that guests didn't have to go to baggage claim! Oh man...he was peeved. He stood there muttering about having to lug his bags himself, and why the 'heck' they hadn't been told about this!! Guess he didn't read his instructions.

I'm like KristenRice. I get mildly annoyed at the sheer number who drag their bags to the buses. It makes moving in line more difficult and it does slow everyone down at each stop.
But I guess - to each their own. I'll get over it

Those silly people, dragging their bags through the line.

They should have hired a porter, who would put their bags on a cart, lead them to the ME area, then wait outside of the line with the bags until they are put onto a bus! The porter then hands it off to the driver. Just no need to have the bags WITH you, even if they are with you. :)

(speaking from experience here! most of our flights land post 10pm so there's no option if we're taking DME)

Sounds similar to the guy having a hairy canary on the ME bus as he didn't realize his checked bags wouldn't be waiting in his room for him upon arrival. He started yelling at his wife (i'm guessing) about how he had no idea he wouldn't have his bags right away, and what a crock it was. These were also the people frantically trying to make ADRs from their cell phones on the bus.

But then again there was a poster here not long ago who was upset about something, and said they hadn't bothered to read the fine print on their reservation. And ended up burned by it. If only people would learn that when it comes to travel, reading everything is a very good idea!

I usually don't check a bag. If it's a short trip, I carry on. Although I could check a bag if I wanted to.

I have seen a lot of meltdowns at the DME station. The ones who all of a sudden realize they will have to wait for their luggage. The ones who realize they will have to wait for a bus. The ones who realize their bus will go to other resorts first. Actually saw someone ask the driver if he could go to THEIR resort first. I guess they didn't think they would have to wait.

If you are at all against waiting, rent a car...

We always get our checked bags for DME. We usually arrive at about 10-11am and I want my bags because we go the pool and I need my sunscreen.

I also want to kn pow my bags made it....yes I sit by the window when we check bags to watch them get loaded.

We flew in April but had carry ons. Jet blue offered the free checked bag when we while we were waiting so again I watched my bags get on the plane.

I don't think it takes up much time to get the bags out from under the bus. People are still getting off the bus and we have our bags and getting checked in.

It not taking up much time is a relative thing. For you, especially if getting off at the first stop, it might not be much added time at all. But, I've had the experience of being the last of three stops, where each of the two previous stops had several families waiting for their bags. One resort stop had about 4 families, with at least 4, and sometimes more, bags for each family. We sat there for close to 10 mins, waiting for them to get their bags straightened out. The second stop was marginally better..only sat there for 8 mins...yes, I timed it!!! At the last stop, I flew off that bus. Thank heavens I didn't have a stowed bag, just a small tote bag I kept with me. That trip was almost 20 mins longer for me! It normally takes me 70 mins or less. That trip was close to 90 mins.
I always pack anything I may need for the first day in my carry on bag. Only one time did a check bag go 'walk about'....but it was on-site. It was at the resort we had originally booked, not the one we changed to...even though the reservation number was the same and the change had been made 3 weeks prior to travel.

To each his own I guess. There is no rule that says you have to use the luggage service and we don't. What if our bags don't arrive until 4:30 and we have 5pm dinner reservations and need clothes, etc...in there. I would be ticked for sure! I sure as heck am not going to carry my cameras, computers, iPads/phones, cords, snacks, things to do on the plane, medicine AND clothes for the evening, a bathing suit for when we get there, pool cover up, flip flops if my kids aren't wearing them in a carry on as well. Plus that big over 3.4 oz thing of sunscreen. My kids carry their own crap, aka stuffed animal, pillow and a friggin blanket plus their plane crap and snacks that aren't always good for you,

We aren't always the first stop, sometimes we go to the CR first or the WL, no biggie as I am in the 'world.' I love people watching so waiting 5 min for the driver to get off and get back on isn't detrimental. I know some people ask on these boards how long will it take to get from the airport to my resort? Can't answer that, there are tons of variables-traffic being one, another is waiting for the bus to fill at the airport.

I don't know why it would take so long to get the bags straigtnened out. I mean we see which area our bags go in and we know how many bags we have and which are ours. We just point and say one more or that's it.

My DH and I laugh and think of the fockers everytime we fly with our bags.

I hunk it's fun to go to all the resorts. I mean I am itching to get to my resort so it's like lotto, sometimes its first, sometimes it's last and sometimes it's in the middle. I love watching people in their mouse gear wear walking around their resort.
