DME - time to resort and get bags?

My understanding is that it's safe to plan for about 90 minutes to get to resort of using DME (from time we get on the line?)

DME website says about 3
Hours after you get to resort for luggage.

Is that fairly accurate? If not, What's the usual range of time from the time you check in?

90 mins from line to room is usually a safe estimate- it's never been longer for us but we've never had to wait long at the airport. I think if you're at the Boardwalk, you'll be on a bus that goes to YC and BC first.

We usually fly in at night- land at MCO around 8pm and we've always received our luggage by 11pm although I've heard horror stories about people not getting ther luggage until the next morning.

Yep, avg to resort is 90 min. Sometimes less, sometimes more.
Bags may take up to 4 hours after you "check in"
I put check in in quotes because not sure what constitutes check in.
If you get a straight to room text you could possibly get that even before you get on the plane, I know I have. So obviously you won't get your bags 4 hours after that. They can't really go by when you use your band to enter your room as it's possible to go straight to the parks and not go to your room for hours and hours. We've done that and returned to find our bags in the room.
In my experience with flying this past year, 5 trips, we got our bags in a couple of hours after we got to the resort. So about 4 hours after landing.

While 90 minutes is said to be the median time from airplane gate to resort when you use Magical Express, you should plan several hours more when making reservations or booking tours at Disney on your first day.

The most common reason for a significant additional delay in your getting to your resort is late arrival of your plane. On average, about 1 in 4 flights starts unloading passengers more than 15 minutes late.

The most common reason for bags not getting to your room within 4 hours thereafter is their delayed arrival in Orlando due to airline irregularities.

You should pack toothbrush, swimsuit, etc. needed for your first 24 hours in a carryon.

You can't be 100% sure on the bus route. They are not set in stone, and they flex depending on demand. Who knows, maybe the OP will get lucky.

I'm more concerned with understanding how long after I get to resort to get bags.

Should be within 4 hours. But it is always wise to pack whatever you need for your first 24 hours in your carry on bags. Just in case the airline misdirects your checked luggage.

3 to 4 hours is usual. But there is no precise time to give. It's just a range.

I'm crazy and don't pack anything in my carry on unless I need it right away. I've never packed for 24 hours in it. I don't care to deal with figuring out what liquids can go, etc. So I pack them all in the checked bags. I only carry on the plane the stuff I need to go to the park when we arrive, if we are going. A swim suit if we are going swimming. We also don't change planes so reduced chances of misdirected bags. Anyway, I know everyone here says to pack for 24 hours but we don't. I can get a toothbrush there if needed. Heck, at CR they had them in our room

If you're always getting your luggage by 11pm when your flight lands at 8pm, then you must live under a lucky star, because you're supposed to get your luggage 3 hours after you get to your resort, not 3 hours after you land. (And if you're landing at 8pm, you're probably not getting to your resort much earlier than 9:15-9:30.)

I've always heard it as being from gate to resort, meaning that the 90 minutes includes the time to deplane, maybe make a pitstop, and then the time to get to the DME area.)

Some day, Angi, the airline is going to misdirect your luggage, then you'll understand the rest of us. :-)

I usually stay at BWI. In December, we were the first to be dropped off. Other times, we've been last. It's always a surprise when the driver announces the order of drop off.

If I only had need of a toothbrush I might follow your lead. But when landing early I usually like a change of clothes too. Or swimsuit. Not to mention what a hassle it would be if, God forbid, your luggage was actually lost for a day or two. You can buy some clothing (for a high price) at WDW, but comfy shoes would be a problem. I'm just not a risk taker that way.

I've had lost luggage a long time ago. In that case a carry on wouldn't help. Can't carry on enough to make a real difference. Not trying to say your way is wrong just that in the long run having a tooth brush in my carry on isn't a huge deal. If my bag is lost 24 hours worth of stuff won't help much. Won't prevent a run to a store. So I don't bother.

I wear comfy shoes on the plane so that is covered. Means one pair I don't have to pack. And yes I bring a swim suit on the plane often but that isn't going to help much if the rest of my luggage is lost

I need 2 pairs of shoes to be comfy, as I find it is better to rotate them. :p Gotta keep the feet happy, for sure!

Me too. But i need 4. I bring 3 spare and wear 1.
But even if I have a carry on it would not have spare shoes.

Yes, it's 3-4 hrs from resort checkin. And I usually allow 90 mins from gate to resort. As mentioned, I seldom book anything for the first three hours after I arrive at my resort. I've had flights delayed for 3 hrs. Sure would have hated having to pay for something I missed while sitting on the plane!!!
I'm one who does pack a carryon with things I might need. The one time I didn't? I was heading home, from Florida. Our flight was diverted to Philly (instead of Providence)..it was NYE day..should have been home by 2pm! But, landed in Philly at 3:00. Were told that we had two choices....
1. get off, get a room, and have our checked bags remain on the plane. Get a flight out first thing in the morning.
2. stay on the plane, return to FtL, get a room for the night, get checked bags and book a flight out first thing in the morning.
Well...I was heading home. I didn't have anything in my carry on bag!!! Not one toiletry. So, we flew back to FtL....3 more hrs on that plane. SW paid for nothing..not our dinner that we had to grab at the airport in Philly, then bring back on the plane. Not our room for that night. Nothing.
Now, I always have toiletries in my carry on bag, a tee shirt that I can either wear to bed or change into, fresh underwear. You get the idea. If my bags get misdirected heading to WDW, at least I can freshen up, have a swim, change my clothes and head to a park. I have all that I need in that carry on bag.

I have had my bags delivered to my resort room almost as soon as I arrived. But, I usually just go to a park, and when I return to the room, the bags are there. Only once has it taken 4 hrs to get to our room. Well, other than the time we changed resorts but Disney couldn't seem to get it fixed in their system, and our one checked bag sat at the original resort for 6 hrs!!! Took many calls to fix that one...after they said it had been fixed at the DME kiosk at MCO.
