We are using DME to get to our resort this trip.
DH isn't real thrilled with them return to the airport being 3 hours early though, lol. We were wondering, even though we are using DME, can we take a taxi back to Orlando International instead of DME?
If it is, can anyone give me a rough estimate of how much a taxi ride from the Disney resorts to MCO would cost?

Yes - you can use DME one way and then take a taxi or town car back to the airport.

A taxi will cost about $55.00 plus tip and if your going from your resort to the airport it will give you an extra 30 minutes or so.

Also note that you can still use the Resort Airline Check-in service to check your bags and get your boarding passes at the resort even if you use a cab vs. DME. RAC and DME are completely separate services.

I would point out that you still will want a cab picking you up at least 2 hours before you scheduled flight time.

From your resort I would consider the time savings of a taxi over DME to be negligible.

But leaving by taxi directly from a park could be significant. No need to plan around bus transportation back to your resort where you catch DME.

Just don't let your husband try to cut it too close getting to MCO. They recommend you get there 2 hours before your flight. This is especially true if you are checking bags in at the airport and not at the resort. The lines at MCO can be horrible, and that is true of both check in and security. That line alone can take a half hour or longer depending on how busy the airport is. I would much rather have time to kill at the airport than be stuck in line, frantic I would miss my flight.

Not to mention, you don't want to end up stuck on the highway behind an accident and not have any cushion time built in to your travel time. Accidents are quite common on the roads around WDW. You do need to leave some just in case time built in to your day. To be honest, I wouldn't be comfortable leaving my resort any less than 2 1/2 hours before my flight. So you will spending about $60 to gain 30 minutes at WDW. Just not worth it, imho.

Having to catch DME about 3 hours ahead of your scheduled departure may seem like a lot of time, but it's about 35-45 minutes from WDW to MCO, so you really only have about 2 to 2.5 hours at the airport to get through security. As others have said, security takes a while.

If you have your carry-ons with you and have already checked your baggage, then taking a taxi will give you extra time at a park. If you have go back to the hotel to get your carry-ons, then you probably aren't really going to get to much extra time.

You will want the cab to pick you up 2 1/2 hours before your flight. It takes 30 to drive to the airport and security at MCO can be very busy. So all you will save is 30 minutes plus it will cost you $60 to get there.
