I'm pretty sure I've read what to do about this 100 times but I just want to make sure. I received my DME tags today and they have the wrong arrival dates on them. (I added a day on to the front of our trip). Do I just mark it off and correct it myself on the tag or do I call DME to send new ones?

If you're far enough out, call to get new tags. Have you changed your DME reservation to match?

I ended up calling the DME line but the CM said the tags I have now will be fine. I may call back this week just to double check though. Our trip isn't until May so I still have plenty of time for new ones to be sent.
I did update the reservation through their online form and called them too to update it just to make sure.

Here's my issue....we've always been told not to mark the tags in any way. So, we didn't. Now, we're being told to cross out 'old resort' name and plug in the correct name. Same with arrival dates. Why is this an issue, you may ask? Because this means they aren't scanning the bags! They were supposed to scan the bags along the way, probably 2 or 3 times. It made tracking our bags easy. But..if they are only going by what is written on the tag? Not being scanned.
A year or so ago I changed my reservation from Pop to POR...about 3 weeks prior to our stay. I never got new tags...not sure why, there was plenty of time. Okay, I say to myself. The reservation number has stayed the same so when they scan it, they'll see the bags are going to POR. No problem. Well....a week or so later, dd and I decided to surprise my ddil by showing up for her college graduation....it was a very big deal for her to finish second in her class at the age of 47!! So, we never had to tag our bags because we were going to Tampa and then driving to Orlando. So, we arrived with our bags in hand. But...dd's friend was flying in from Texas...she had tagged her one checked bag. When we got to the DME checkin area, they directed us to the Pop bus line. No, I told them, we're going to POR. No, they said, you're booked at Pop! I told them I had changed the reservation almost a month ago!! And that the number had stayed the same, so it should be showing the correct resort. We were sent over to the desk area....we were told it was a good thing we didn't have any checked bags since that would be an issue!!! Seriously? Yes, we had one checked bag! So, after about 15-20 mins, we were told that it was all okay now...the resort had been changed in the system (even though POR showed on MDE and I had paperwork to that effect!). Off we went to POR. This was about 6:00pm...we had arrived at MCO at 5 to meet dd's friend. Got to POR around 7:15, dropped our bags and headed to the CR to meet a DCP friend of the girls' and watch Wishes from ToTW. We returned about 11:30...that one bag wasn't there. So, dd's friend called down and they said it wasn't there yet but should be brought up soon. Even though she landed at 5???? Okay. By 12:30, still no bag. Called down at 12:45....they said they were looking. At 1:15 that bag was delivered. We were told it had been sitting at Pop all night!!! And that we should have changed the name of the resort on the tag!!!! I was NOT a happy camper! No one could scan that bag to see what the reservation number showed? Nope. They just put it aside and forgot about it.

So, long story short? Carefully cross out any incorrect info....carefully write in the correct info. Be careful not to alter the barcode, although I'm not sure why. It seems they don't use it.

I think it's a back up checking process
They do scan them and see what the barcode pulls up
I would expect them to then look at the tags for a back up to confirm, with dates, names, resort, etc.
If they both agree, perfect, bag moves on.
If they don't, some additional screening probably needs to be done to make sure the bag is heading to the correct location
Now, I don't know for a fact that's how they do it but I can see that being the process and why they say it's ok to write on the tags.

We have had the resort change issue in the ME system before. And it's when I learned if I have changes to our reservation that impact resort or dates I don't use the yellow tags at all. I give the CM our claim checks

I refuse to have my checked bags sitting out in the open, at the public baggage claim! They need to get the info correct in their computers! Even if I had written POR on the checked bags, and they scanned them, they would have still gone to POP!!! That's what their system had as our resort..not POR. I doubt anyone would have spent much time following up to see where the bags were really supposed to go! Nope, I no longer trust them to get it right....I call DME directly to order new tags. If I don't get the tags, I don't tag my bags at all. I get them myself and lug them to the bus...which really annoys me!

Well I called again and she assured me that everything would be fine and to just mark out the date and write it correctly. I'm not too worried since we didn't change resorts or anything..just getting in a day early.
