DME Return Question...

I'm sure this has been asked before - I could not find the answer - so forgive me for asking again....

I'll be arriving to BWV's via rental car coming from the beach. Our flight home leaves @ 8:15pm on a Sunday night. I'd like to check our luggage w/ DME & get our boarding passes at the resort (flying United) but grab a taxi when it's time to go to the airport.

- Do we get our boarding passes at the resort? Do we need to wait in line to "check in" at the airport or can we go through security & straight to the plane?

- Will DME take our bags BACK to the airport if we don't take the bus? & can we use the airport check-in if we are not taking the bus?

- How much time should we allow leaving our resort if we don't have to check bags or check in at the airport? (Keeping in mind it is a Sun. eve. in early Dec.) Do they always have cabs available at the resorts?

Thanks to anybody who can help :sunny:

First, you do get your boarding passes at the resort. I don't think you have to wiat in line at the airport you just go through security and to the gate.

Second, DME will not take your bags to the airport if you do not ride the bus and you cannot use the check-in if you do not take the bus. I drive a DME bus and know this to be a fact.

If you decide to take a cab from the resort, take your baggage with you and leave the resort about 2 hours before your flight time. It takes a minimum of 30 minutes to get from the resorts to the airport and you will want to have a 30 minute cushion in case something should go wrong.

On your return trip to MCO you can check in at your resort, receive your boarding passes and give them your luggage and then you are free to take whatever transportation you would like. It doesn't have to be the DME on your return trip. This is according to Disney.

When you get to the airport you bypass your airlines ticket counter because you already have your boarding passes and Disney is bringing your luggage to the airport.

Mears-Driver - Thank you for your quick response! It's great to have first-hand info. on the board :)

After making my post I found this link...

http://disneymeetings.disney.go.com/dwm/services/detail?name=DMEPlannerFAQDetailPage#C4Q6

It says we can check our luggage, etc. at the resort & not take the bus? I was hoping to check my baggage around 11 am & get my boarding passes. What would happen if I just missed my bus? (I would not plan on doing this - I don't want to take advantage of the service & planning) Would they pull my luggage from the airline?

I'm just happy that I have till Dec. to figure all this new stuff out - I think it might take that long :rotfl:

If you don't want to take the bus to the airport you don't have to. As the link showed you it is perfectly fine not to take the bus but your luggage will still get to the airport and on your flight. You won't see it again till you get to your home airport.

You should allow at least 1/2 hr. to get to the airport. Then I would allow at least 2 hours before your flight. Security can be very busy and they start boarding a half hour before your flight leaves. It is better to be sitting at the gate rather than fearing you are going to miss your flight.

We were posting at the same time! Thank you for all your info. I'll plan on catching a cab around 6:30 for a 8:15 flight - I'm not into cutting it close - but it's SO hard to leave!

Has anybody actually DONE this yet? How did it work out for you?

You are cutting it close. If it only takes half an hour to the airport so you would get there at 7:00. The flight would start boarding at 7:45.

I was going to post the info. from Disney but you beat me to it!

I am planning on checking our luggage(flying Song) at BCV and returning to the airport with the rental car and this way I won't have to carry the bags and checkin at the airport I can just head to security.

Sounds like a great way to do this!

Actually, not quite right.

If you get your luggage checked-in and get your boarding passes, you are free to take whatever transportation you choose.

If your luggage is checked in , it goes via a truck, not via DME.
