DME & Rental Car

I have an Alamo minivan reserved for 8 days for $150. I also have us signed up for DME which was our original plan. We are actually a group of 9 - can part of us take DME and the others pick up the rental car and have all our luggage go via DME?

Here are the specifics:
- we have 3 studios reserved at OKW (DVC) for the first night
- my family (2 adults & 2 teens - studio 1) is flying in from Colorado, family 2 (2 adults & 2 kids - studio 2) and fifth adult (studio 3) are flying in from Oregon, but we are transferring in Dallas, so everyone will be on the same flight into Orlando.
- I've reserved the car in my husband's name as he usually drives, the rental includes a second free driver
- it is a 7 passenger van, so not big enough for everyone, particularly with luggage and for that long of a drive
- my family will probably check 5 bags (we tend to more and smaller bags), family 2 will probably check 2-3 bags (they go for one big bag +) and the other adult will probably check one bag

Questions:
1. Is it a problem if not everyone in the room checks in with DME? Does the lead person on the room reservation (me) have to check in? Could just my teens take DME with the other families, while my husband and I pick up the rental car?
2. If the original DME reservation was for four and thus we have 8 tags and only 2 people (my teens) actually take DME, will there be any problem with our luggage if we have more than four pieces? Are the tags specific to the person or the reservation?
3. At Alamo, do I need to be there to pick up the rental if I am the second driver? Currently the reservation is not a Quick Silver, but I have signed up for the program and hope to get it changed to a QS reservation.

Thanks for any help

Yes, you should have enough tags for just you and your husband to get the rental car.

Just make sure you put the yellow tags for those actually taking DME on "your" luggage.

The yellow tags have the reservation holders name and the name of the person they actually belong to.

Since you are the reservation holder, all the DME info and the tags should come to your house, so just distribute them accordingly and don't use the tags that your name on there twice, or the tags that have your and hubby's name.

I hope this makes sense.

So even if they send us 8 tags, if only my teens actually check in and use DME, I can only use their four tags or not all of my luggage will make it to the resort? If I use a fifth tag (with either my or my husband's name on it), that bag will be left behind?

PS I can't use the other families tags as their tags will be sent to them (their addresses are on their reservations) and they are starting from a different airport. (Now if they get their tags enough in advance, they can mail me a couple.)

this past November DH picked up the rental car with DD and I took DME with my other two kids. We received 10 tags for the 5 of us, all of them only had my name on them.

Karen- If Mom is only is using 1 tag then you should be fine ( which is how it is looking right now) ....Let's hope that the tags come soon and we will mail them to you. When are they suppose to be mailed? Does this mean that we can go to the store and purchase pop etc????? Hee Hee.

From what I understand, that is correct.

If your other family can send you an extra tag or two, that would be the best solution.

One thing I did in December when I was flying Southwest and actually had 3 bags (only two tags), is I scanned in one of my tags on a color scanner and then printed it on sticky paper and used that on my third bag.

All three bags got there.
