I believe they asked me when I made the reservations. And this week I got my package and the flight # was wrong so I called them. If I remember last year was the first time I used them, and when I check in at the DME they asked me if I was going to use the service going back to the airport(I wasn't). I guess if I was they would given me a time or contacted me at the hotel for the pick up time.
So my advise as always go back to the source and discuss your specific situation that way there's no guessing.
If you have already made your Magical Express reservation one way only to your resort, it is better to wait until you get there to make the return-to-airport reservation. You can do this at the welcoming area upon landing at the airport, or you can make it at your resort. The normal deadline is morning of the day before the day you will leave the resort.
This way less of a chance of screwing up the to-resort reservation.
You can either call DME directly, or just wait to do it when you check in at your resort. Don't wait too long though. It has to be done no later than 24 hrs prior to departure.
We had to do this when part way through our stay we had to change our return flight. We went to the concierge desk at the resort and they were able to rebook DME for us.
