DME luggage delivery

We will be checking in at BWI two weeks from Friday (woohoo!). We’ve always driven in the past and this is our first time flying, so the DME experience is all new to me. I’d like to let Disney get our luggage and bring it to us so we can go straight to the bus. Our flight gets in at about 6:30pm, so I’m anticipating that it would likely be pretty late at night by the time they’d be able to get it to us, so I’m planning on asking them to hold it until the next day. However, we’re planning on hitting EMH the next morning and being in the parks all day. Will they just bring the luggage and leave it in the room while we’re gone or would I need to call them to have it brought either early in the morning before we leave or late at night after we get back?

It's usually about 3ish hours. I doubt they'll hold it for you. They're putting them on a truck and delivering basically almost around-the-clock all day long. It's not like they have a storage locker for them. DME is contracted by Disney, but it's not Disney. It's a great convenience but sometimes it's smoother just to get your own bags.

I fly from the west coast & have arrived at MCO in the early evening several times. Personally with a 6:30 pm arrival I would expect my bags to be in my room no later than 10 p.m.. Usually I’ll check out my room at my resort, leaving my carry on in it, then head out to a park or for dinner. Most of the time when I get back to the room the bags are there.
If I were you I’d not bother with asking them to hold the bags, if by the time you want to go to sleep they haven’t arrived call Bell Services and ask them to hold them until the morning. I believe when you’ve asked them to hold your luggage you’ll need to call down for it when you want it brought up, which would defeat the goal of leaving early for EMH the first morning, but am not sure - maybe ask your question over in the transportation forum? https://www.disboards.com/forums/transportation.16/

I’ve seen others report on here that they’ve asked Disney to hold their bags until morning when they had evening flights without issues, which is where I got the idea. Obviously, I’m not speaking from experience, as I have none, but it doesn’t seem to be unheard of.

Thanks for the info! 10:00pm would be fine, I’m just trying to avoid the 12:00 or 1:00am drop offs I’ve seen some report. I thought about using the transportation board, but figured my question made more sense over here since it’s about the resorts’s handling of the luggage rather than the process of taking DME itself. :) It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but happy to hear of others’ experiences.

August, 2018 we arrived at 11:18 am at MCO. Our luggage still didn't show up at 4:30. We went to luggage services and was told it was out to be delivered to the room. We received it around 5:30. We just make sure our carry on has,a complete change of clothes and things necessary to make that first day\night enjoyable.

I think it's hit or miss. Sometimes people ask for the bags to be held, then they show up anyway. Just seems like that would be even more annoying than expecting them to arrive at 10 or 11pm (because if I wasn't expecting them, I'd be in bed in my pjs by then).

Oh yes, we absolutely plan to be prepared to live off of our carry on for the first day or two!

Agreed! My hope is that it will come by 11 or so, which is likely when we’ll go to bed, but I know I’ll have to play it by ear on the day of. Mostly just wondering if policy was that you had to be in the room for delivery if they’d held it for you the night before.

We arrived at 9:30 am and didn’t see our luggage until almost 5 pm. We were at POP and they had some construction going on with luggage services, but other resorts are reporting long delays as well. I would pack everything you need and then ask them to deliver it in the morning.

They positively will hold it for you.
Do wires get crossed and they accidentally deliver it? Sometimes. Mistakes happen as they are only human. But it's not intentional.
You can confirm it not being delivered by placing the "We are in the room" sign on the door.
They do have a storage locker for them. It's called Bell Services. Where do you think they store all the bags people leave?
DME doesn't deliver bags by the way, ever. It's Bags Inc. They bring them to Disney and hand them off to Bell Services. That's who brings them to the room.

They will hold the bags but if you opt to have them held, at that point, they essentially convert to "held by bell services" and not being delivered as part of your ME service so you'll have to call for them the same as bags you turned over yourself and you'll have to be in the room.

7:00pm arrival at MCO is our cutoff. After 7:00pm, we get our own and take them to DME with us. We have had an arrival just prior to the cutoff, utilized the DME luggage service and got a knock on our door at 2:30am. Didn't realize at the time you could ask Bell Services for them to hold your bags. Live and learn.

If we have an afternoon flight that has a layover, we will also not put the DME tags on our luggage in the event that one or both of our flights get delayed after we had checked in our luggage. That way if we have a late arrival, I don't have to worry about getting the knock on the door in the middle of the night.

Thank you! This is what I was wondering about. :) So if we have them held we’ll have to get up extra early to get them brought up before we head to the parks. Not a huge deal.
