DME users, has anyone ever experienced lost or misdirected luggage on your way home? Or bags that have never made it onto the plane? :scared1:

We have seen a few reports...but you have to remember that DME isn't handling your bags...RAC/BAGS is. They are acting on behalf of the airlines. Then, there is no way of knowing, for sure, if the fault lies with the RAC/BAGs people, at the resort level (not getting the bags to the airport in a timely fashion), or if it's the baggage handlers at MCO itself. They will start playing the blame game.

BUT...having said that, hundreds of thousands of WDW guests have checked their bags at their resorts, in a timely fashion, and had them arrive at their home airport with no issues at all. It's nothing that I worry about...and I've used this service more times than I can recall.

We have used them 3 years in a row now and have never had a problem. I'm sure it does happen but probably very rare.

No matter what method you use to check your luggage through to your destination, or who processes it, always check each luggage tag after it's affixed to your bags to make sure it has the correct three-letter code.

Orlando is MCO, and you're each responsible for knowing your own home airports ;).

As an AP holder, I go to WDW 4-6 times a year and have used DME ever since it has been in existence. I even used it the very first week it started. Yeah, I was one of the original guinea pigs that first week.:rotfl: I have never had a problem with DME and highly recommend the service. It's great not having to deal with bags. In fact, in just the last 12 months I used them last Sept, again Nov/Dec, again in Feb, again in May and will be using them the first week of Sept and again Oct/Nov.

DME only handles the bags that go under the bus, and you should be grabbing those back when you get to your drop off point. So it is impossible for DME to lose or misdirect luggage on the way back to MCO.

RAC/BAGS are the people who handle luggage after you check in for your flight while at a Disney resort. It is just like checking in at the airport. So if any luggage is lost at that point, the airline is the one to blame, not DME.

DME and RAC are different groups, but often confused.

Excellent point. It's always a good idea to double check the destination tags on all checked bags..just to be sure.

Thanks, goofy4tink. I do come up with a good one once in a while ;). This suggestio was prompted by (a) general travel experience, and (b) someone posting here(?) not that long ago about a wedding party member's luggage going astray on the way home, and the airline and "DME" - RAC, we know - blaming each other.

The luggage was found mistagged at a different US airport :)

Thanks to everyone who replied! :)

I am new to using the DME for transportation, and was totally unaware of the two separate companies regarding baggage handling. I am grateful for that info.

I will be sure to check the tags on my bags when I do airport check-in on departure. :thumbsup2

Another satisfied DME customer here:thumbsup2 We've used DME 3 times over the past 2 years and it was WONDERFUL not having to deal with the luggage. We've never had an extensive delay of delivery to our room and never an issue with the luggage on the return home. When you leave WDW, you can check in with your airline when you drop your bags (for most, at least) and verify the itinerary and get boarding passes. They even recognize my Delta Skymile status (sometimes I'm upgraded to first class) and slap the special tag on it like they do at the airport.

This is one of Disney's best ideas ever:wizard:
