I have a voucher for a free rental car and I think for BWV (first time there) a car is useful. Has anyone signed up for DME just to get the benefit of getting your luggage taken care of from airport to villa?? Will it work if you never get your book scanned at DME check-in??

Luggage delivery is supposed to be for guests riding DME, I would feel guilty trying to use just the luggage delivery.

I would think for security reasons as well they would not want luggage on a bus that did not have a passenger attached to it.

To get your luggage to your resort, my understanding is that at least one of your party needs to actually ride the DME bus.

Its different going home...if you are using one of the participating airlines, you can do your complete airline checkin, including the bags, whether or not you actually ride the DME bus.

To do either, you do need to sign up for DME though.

You cannot use DME just for the purposes of getting your luggage to the resort. One passenger, at least, needs to board the bus.

I believe there are threads on this (outside of DVC threads). I have never not ridden DME and tried to have luggage delivered. It is my understanding that the luggage would still arrive, NOT that I am suggesting it is allowed.

Luggage does not go on bus with guests. It is collected and trucked to Disney. The only luggage put on bus is luggage guests brings with them, usually carry on's.

I do this all the time. We did this in Dec, June and July. Each time my luggage has been delivered. No need to scan band. DME has a deal that states something like all luggage will be delivered with the tags. However, their official policy is that you have to ride the bus.

We had our bands scanned at the ME desk, but the line was so long, we went under the ropes and got a cab. Luggage was delivered but took 5 hours, not sure what the deal was with the time wait for luggage, but worth the cab ride to get to the pool at least an hour earlier.

It's true that your luggage would get there if you didn't ride with DME. The problem lies in if one of your bags goes missing. Once Disney sees you didn't get on the DME bus, you'll find yourself trying to track down the bag with the airline on your own.

Luggage from the resort to the airport isn't part of DME and you don't need a reservation, it's called RAC (Resort Airline Check-In).

The DME bus from the resort to the airport is provided by DME and it does require a reservation.

The DME riding requirement for inbound luggage handling is due to the contract with the vendor and how they get paid.
