Can DME drop you off at some other place other than your resort? We'd like to head over to Downtown Disney since our arrival is midmorning and cannot check into our room at POR until 3pm. Our we forced into being let off at POR or could we get off at another resort closer/easier bus access to DTD? TIA!

Currently DME will only drop you off at your resort. The next logical change will be to allow guests to do their resort check-in at MCO and then go directly to a theme park. This can't happen until an upgrade is made to the software. From what I've read this won't happen until next year, at the earliest.

The POR is a DTD resort, you can not get too much closer. Your room may be ready, sometimes they are ready before the offical check in time. If your room is not ready, you can still check in and have them hold any luggage that you've taken on the bus with you. You can then take the bus to DTD or take the boat.

Allowing resort check in at MCO would also increase the space requirements. One check in area will now have to do the duty of twenty odd check in areas for the various resorts respectively.

Either that or resort check in would have to be limited so as to be very cursory in order to save time. You can imagine how long lines would get when guests try to make last minute special requests such as non-smoking or connecting rooms or second floor or adding water park fun or hopping at the MCO DME desk.

I understand the current computer system won't allow for resort check-in but future software would.

Resorts currently pre-assign rooms while we're on the DME bus. We can ask to have our pre-assigned rooms changed when we arrive at our resort. At least in some resorts you can't make changes to your tickets when you checkin, you have to wait on the "lobby concierge/guest services" line after you check-in.

I agree it would probably be an express checkin, the CM would give you keys and a set packet for your resort. Maybe they won't even give you a room number, just have you call a phone number to get your room number. That's the same procedure that's followed if your room isn't ready. I'm thinking you'd use same credit card you used for your reservation and the DME CM would just give you room keys and a resort packet. Any other changes would be done at the resort. This would also allow Disney to give available rooms to guests that want to go their resort and wait to assign rooms to guests that want to go directly to a park first.
