DME Departure Options

I am debating whether to rent a car or use DME. I'd prefer to use DME on my arrival but the departure is where I'm thinking a rental car would be preferred.

My flight home leaves at 1:45pm which means, because it's a fight to Canada, I'll be picked up 4 hours prior to departure - at 9:45am - by DME. I am traveling alone, will have only one small piece of carry-on and will have checked in on-line with an e-boarding pass so there's no way I'll need to be at the airport that early (I travel regularly for work so I'm comfortable getting around airports quickly).

If I rent a car I can either hang around the resort for a couple extra hours in the morning or head over to DTD until say 10:30 or 11:00 and then head out to the airport on my own schedule. Other option is to take the Disney transportation to DTD and then take a taxi to the airport but that would probably be more expensive than renting a car for the 3 days I'm there.

If I decide to use DME and they give me a pick-up time of 9:45 can I request a later pick-up time?

Any other thoughts or suggestions?

The only way to request a later pick up time is to lie to DME and tell them that your flight is later than it really is.

I actually agree that you don't need 4 hours for a flight to Canada - it has never taken me any longer when flying to Canada versus flying to another US city when I've flown from MCO. The bottleneck is usually security and Canadian flights (at least Air Canada) feed through the exact same security lines as domestic US flights.

However, I'd either suck up the four hours if taking DME or choose another method (i.e. I wouldn't lie to DME to get a different bus time).

When flying to Canada there's no extra security (i.e. Customs) than there is for a flight going to a U.S. city. I clear Canadian customs back in Canada. All I have to do at MCO is go through TSA screening and head to my gate. Not a 3 hour procedure.

You can check your car rental rates, but I would consider a taxi or car service. Unless you want to waste some time with the rental car drop off procedure before you go into the airport. For about $60 plus tip you can get a car service to bring you to the airport. (Tiffany Town Car rate according to website)

A couple of warnings before you try to grab an extra couple of hours in Disney World. First off, traffic around Orlando can be horrible. So you want to leave some cushion in your travel time to the airport. Second, the security lines at MCO are usually pretty darn long. There is no quick getting thru security there! Don't cut it too close and risk missing your flight!
