DME and Car Rental Thread

Hi all.... I have a question about DME and renting a car.

We have DME reservations for our trip coming up in January.

We had been planning to rent a car at WDW for a few days of our trip, but I am finding the rates are dropping enough that I might want to spend the extra to have a car for the full 6 days from MCO.

My question is, if I don't check in for DME from the airport and instead go to our resort via rental car, will they still transport our luggage via truck and send it to our room?

Also on the return, would I be allowed to do the check in at the resort through to our destination and have them handle our luggage?

Thanks,

Ted

1. It will work although there are obscure once in a blue moon idiosyncrasies. Specifically, you are technically not a Magical Express guest and certain baggage claims (very very rare) may need to be handled at the airport as opposed to at the resort. All of the voluminous verbose gobbledegook and need to notify you about possible behind the scenes changes is circumvented by the simple phrase "Magical Express is not a baggage only service."

2. Yes you may. Technically baggage checking going home at your resort is separate from Magical Express.

The closest equivalent to Magical Express Disneybound from the point of view of a suitcase is a connecting flight if its owner rides Magical Express and is a third party courier service if its owner does not.

On your luggage going from the airport to the room if you don't take the bus...you are not supposed to have them transport baggage if you are not using the bus. I know some folks do it anyway. I wouldn't because I don't know what kind of support I'd get from DME on baggage if there was an issue, like if the DME tag fell off or you had more luggage than you had DME tags.

On the return, the resort checkin is not related to DME. Anybody can use it as long as you are on a participating airline.

Thanks for the reply...

so on the arrival, if three of the four of us check in at DME and ride to the resort on the bus and we make sure our three checked bags are associated with those three, then we should have no problems, right (I think the kids are going to want to take the bus ride with their cousins arriving on the same flight anyway).

The return will be easier with the car.

Something to think about.

It is no problem if the number of baggage items exceeds the number of persons riding.
