DLRP and DVC?

Hi,
i am very tempted but how much money are we talking about, and how many points are needed for dlrp hotels. We almost attended a presentation for Marriot in Dlrp it looked fantastic but we were talking 3/4 hours out of our holiday and time just flew by. The maintenance on disney points seems expensive but it depends on what you can do with them. Realistically WDW is a few and far between experience but DLRP is at least once a year for 1 week and also for 'other' holidays

The Marriott timeshare at DLRP is not (as far as I'm aware) anything to do with Disney, it is just near to DLRP.

You can use Disney Vacation Club (which is part of Disney) points to stay at DLRP. But! It is extremely expensive to do so. For example with my points (I have 150) I can "buy" the following at WDW every year:

12 - 13 nights in deluxe DVC accommodation at WDW (I have used the end of August time for this example, but points cost different amounts depending on the time of year and whether it is a weekend / weeknight.

I could "buy" only 3 nights at Sequoia Lodge for the same points on an annual basis. This does include park tickets, but the standard of accommodation is nowhere near as nice as the DVC resorts.

So you can see the difference! DLRP is cheaper if you pay for it with money rather than DVC points.

As to the cost of DVC, each point is approx $95 at the moment I think and the minimum purchase is 150 points if buying direct from Disney. So 150 x $95 = $14,250 or thereabouts. There's usually some form of incentive when you buy. The 150 point purchase example above will give you 150 points each and every year for the next 49 years if you buy at Saratoga Springs Resort.

For me, that doesn't apply - I love DLRP but would probably only go once every few years. WDW I could go to every year and not tire of it! This is why I bought DVC, but if you are looking to buy to use the points at DLRP I would look elsewhere.

I don't know anything about the Marriott timeshare at DLRP, might be worth posting on the Disneyland Paris board?

It certainly sounds as though DVC may not be the best way forward for you - and that's a hard thing for a DVC fan to admit! DVC is best used for staying in WDW (or Dsney's Hilton Head Island and Vero Beach Resorts) most of the time. That's not to say it isn't possible to use your points elsewhere, but the points system is weighted in favour of the DVC resorts.

Using DVC points for DLP is expensive, yes, BUT, whichever way you look at it, it still means it's free! How we choose to spend our points is our decision and we have been able to let 2 of our children go to the best hotels, at different times with their friends, when we have had spare points.

It's a personal decision of course, but we wouldn't feel happy renting to strangers so if the points are there.....well each to their own.

Actually you can get DVC through Interval International using your Marriott points (you need to book your Marriott and swap for DVC through II). It isn't assured but it can be done. We own DVC and Marriott.
