DLR with arm cast

We are a family of 5 head to DLR in approx 3 weeks. Me, DH, DD 12, DD9, and DS 6. On June 11 DS broke his arm (full 90 degree angulation - yuk). At our last appoint, the orthopedist said we will take off his cast at next appt (July 26). I mentioned that was good luck as it was right before our vacation. Well, that got the doctor to reconsidering. He asked where we were headed (San Diego and DL) and decided we should wait until we return. His concern isn't so much DL as as San Diego and the beach. We already cut down the number of times we are going to the beach to just one, but didn't eliminate it altogether as DDs would be very disappointed. The doctor knows my son (second broken arm) and felt like he would be too tempted to run on the beach and splash in water, thus falling down and trying to break his fall with a newly healed fractured arm. So that is the reason for the postponment.

Anyhow, we have purchased a waterproof cover for the cast on beach day, but I got to thinking about rides at Disney. I can't seem to think of any that would be prohibited because of an arm cast (hand to above elbow), but perhaps some of you out there have had some experience with this. Any problems I should anticipate that I haven't addressed? If there is something out there he can't do, I just want to prepare him in advance to avoid too much disappointment. TIA for any and all suggestions.

They won't keep him from going on anything, but you might want to use the waterproof cover for things like Splash Mountain and Grizzly River as you can get pretty wet on them (especially GRR).

we went earlier this year in march and about 2 weeks before we left DA (5) fell and fractured his elbow. Originally they werent going to cast it, but when he heard that we were going to DL then it was casted.

He went on every ride he wanted and for GRR and Splash we just threw a medium shopping bag over it and a rubberband arround the top of the cast and it stayed perfectly dry. None of the rides botherd him, I was kind of glad that they did cast him, because the next week when they took it off his arm was really sensitive to even being touched, I cant imagine how much it would have been botherd by the rides!

I just wanted to say that I broke my arm at a young age (the two wrist bones actually) and had a cast above the elbow. I'm glad your doctor is taking the precautions because the arm is pretty weak (muscle atrophy) and sensitive after the cast removal (also very susceptible to sunburn). I walked around for 3 days holding my arm gingerly, afraid that the simplest bump would break it again; but with the cast on, I felt invincible!!

I had to chuckle at the feeling of invicibility. I can relate. My son (same one) broke his other arm last year. The doctor was explaing how the bone heals and is actually stronger in that spot. Now, son is convinced that the first arm is equal to a steel rod and so will this one as soon as healing is complete. I other hand am not quite convinced and would like him to lay off the broken bones, please son, did it for your mother :)
