DLR is closing early today (1/18/10)

What's the word for Friday? I fly out early Friday, hoping to do Disney that day. Is today the last "big" storm?

Hope you are all staying dry and safe!

Thanks Dreams. I guess I could've looked it up! It's almost comical. I plan a quick LA trip to escape the ugly Seattle winter and I'm leaving our 55 and sunny weather for this! LOL.

Sounds about right lol. Just like how my friends went on their honeymoon to Florida a few weeks ago to escape the gloomy Seattle weather, and it ended up SNOWING in Orlando!

I was at DLR Monday and I will attest that it was rainy, cold and at times gusty. We were there at 8:00 a.m. for park opening and stuck it out until lunchtime. That said, I've experienced equally bad (or worse) rain at WDW and it's simply more bearable there. I think WDW has more indoor areas -- especially indoor dining areas -- that offer refuge from the rain. We were hard-pressed to find a place to have breakfast inside (out of the rain) at DCA.

A big margarita on the rocks at Downtown Disney lifted my spirits slightly around 2:00. :)

I hear you....I live in Longview, WA! We arrive on Saturday and I hope that weather report is correct.

Arriving on Thursday, so I guess it looks like we may be spending a lot of time exploring the Grand Californian over the next few days. Man this is sucky. :headache:

Well, I can now say that it is now officially pouring in my area - around Beverly Hills-ish - which is about 45 minutes from DLR. And it is getting heavier with each passing 15-minute increment. This will be miserable weather for anyone driving. I would say this would be a great day to just go and sit in the cozy GCH lobby, by the fireplace, with a warm beverage.

I don't know what it will be like tomorrow, but it is going to be a mess the rest of today and tonight, I think.

Lori, the only people who SAY that are people who have never been to So Cal when it rains. LOL It rains every year in So Cal, just not this much usually. :)

Looks like the evacuations of the surrounding hill communities is in full swing. Got a call from my uncle(86) said he was staying and to check on him tonight. Wonderful.

I live near Williams, AZ in the high desert. The BAD storm that is going to go through SoCal today and tomorrow is supposed to dump 30-50 more inches of snow on us. I sure hope they are wrong!

Thanks, was trying to figure out why all the snow but at 6k+ feet I understand why. "Gateway to the Grand Canyon." Was there 5 years ago, rode a Harley from home, did the canyon, LOVE the town and the people were really nice to this old man.

We are ready for it to hit. I successfully convinced the dog to "go" so he is now hiding under a blanket. Our leak from 2 days ago is temporarily secured with painters tape (fingers crossed), we got an estimate to fix it "as soon as the rain stops," DH is picking up food on the way home since he has to already be out, and we are hoping it's not as bad as yesterday. This has been unbelievable.

For those on vacation, I guess what I would do is enjoy the Parks as best as I could until the rain hits and after it hits. The last 2 days, it has been a gorgeous (but cold) evening after the rain has stopped.

As for tomorrow, they have said all along that Thursday is supposed to be the worst of the week. :sad2:

So I guess I should expect that heavy rain to be heading this way sometime soon. Right now we just have "regular" rain - not too heavy but more than a drizzle. Our backyard has drained from the other day and the tortoise is safe in the garage so we're ready!

Hmm.... if that's true than I don't think we'll be heading over to CHOC tomorrow. I definitely don't want to be out driving in that.

Oh yikes! I missed that - tomorrow is supposed to be the worst? Eek. All I heard from Garth Kemp on KABC was "sustained winds between 25 - 45 mph and damaging gusts up to 75 mph," and "torrential downpours," etc. We have been getting the downpours, but so far, no real wind to speak of that I can hear or see. I guess that is coming later.:scared1: I assumed the worst of the weather was all coming today and then tapering off tomorrow. I guess not!

I empathize with you about the leak situation. I hope that tape holds up for you. I can't recall when it was exactly, but I think it was about 9 or 10 years ago, and SoCal was getting whomped with one bad storm after another. Apparently my building - which is old and rickety anyway - had some leaky roof issues in the past, and they never received a permanent fix - only tape and tarp and sealing up individual cracks and things like that. So I had been hearing some dripping behind the wall in the bathroom and I thought it was a plumbing issue. I came home one day and stepped into the bathroom, not realizing that the floor was flooded, and flipped the switch on to turn on the light, as I stood in the water. There was rain water leaking out of the light fixture!!! I could have been electrocuted!:scared1: The landlord tracked the problem to the roof. Unfortunately, because it rained for so long, we had to wait until it stopped raining for anyone to even go onto the roof to put a temporary fix on it, let alone a complete repair. I remember the landlord saying, "Well, hopefully the roof will hold up until the rain stops..." Scary words!! And it seemed to rain for an eternity! I was never so glad to see rain stop as that time, so they could get up there and fix the roof!!

Well, its happened again...the Grapevine is closed for snow. I hope noone was trying to drive down to the Happiest Place.....

My Mom called me this morning and they were heading home from vacation in Nevada. She said they had to pull off and find an RV spot because I-5 was closed.

My friend in Cardiff-by-the-Sea (SD County) is reporting hail. It's snowing in Victorville. At my house it's raining buckets, but so far it's not as windy as yesterday and Monday.

My co-worker lives in Burbank, he told me he had hail at his house for about 15 min. earlier today.

No hail at my house but I bet tonight we'll either get hail or snow. It's raining and it's chilly!
