DLR is closing early today (1/18/10)

Okay, since this seems to be our weather thread....

This just came on my TV:

The cable system is issuing a tornado warning for the following counties: Orange from 1:00pm until 1:30pm.

TORNADO??? Hang on Toto.......

Holy you know what!!! I am in Irvine and it is monstrous right now! Seriously it is like a hurricane. The tornado watch is freaking me out. I have to leave in a few min to pick my son up from school and I don't want to go out there. I have been in hurricanes and this is just as bad. :(

Bad here in San Diego too! I volunteer on the Birch Aquarium's whale-watching boat and was supposed to go in today but our trips were cancelled today and yesterday because of "heavy rains, 30 knot wind gusts, 15 foot waves, and strong possibility of waterspouts". I, for one, am glad I will not be rocking back and forth on a boat today!

I am in N. CA and it is nuts up here! I did my GADGAD yesterday in the pouring pouring rain...good thing for gortex!!!! Today the rain mixed with wind is awful! AND the kids all have inside recess<--- the worst!

Hang on S. Cal!!!

Here in Sac the wind was SO bad it woke me up about 3 this morning. It has haunting. I never did go back to sleep. It has poured all day but right now we are getting a little break and the sun is peeking out. But the next round is due soon.

Tornadoes are right up my alley. Lived in Kansas most of my life. they don't phase me.

I'm going to guess you've never been to Nor Cal during the rainy season? LOL Sorry your day was rainy, I hope it's better soon. :goodvibes

Uh, you guess wrong! I lived in Nor. Cal for 6 years. Went to school at UC Davis. Even experienced the "infamous" floods of winter '96/'97 (or maybe it was '97/'98...can't remember). You know, when I-5 was shutdown because it was covered with water??? Yeah, I know rain. I know lots of rain.

But, this rain has been more rain and wind in LESS TIME than I've ever been through, and I've been in three hurricanes!!! When I look out my window, and I cannot SEE the street in front of my house...it's bad.

Tornadoes!!! fun fun! LOL Be safe down there everyone, this weather is crazy!!

Davis is about 30 min. from me, my DBF and my BFF both graduated from UC Davis. LOL I remember 5 being shutdown, I also remember we were flooded in that year. This year is supposed to be the same. Be safe!!

That was some rain/wind/hail storm O.C. and I.E. went through earlier today. I've been watching the local news and Weather Channel. I'm 30 min. East ot DLR and about 1:30 we got hit by a deluge. :scared1: high wind, torrent of rain, lightning, thunder, hail, etc.

There was a portion of a roof collapse in Irvine and it looks like a tornado did hit Sunset Beach. A Ford Explorer was flipped over and the roof of a home was severally damaged. Trees are down.

The Long Beach freeway is flooded at Willow and in the area of 10th and Bennett it's also flooded.

Yes, we are slightly spoiled here in So. Cal. But this was pretty heavy and the storm sitting off the coast will bring even more rain.:scared1::eek:

There are several large areas in our area that have gone through major fires recently and the hills are stripped of vegatation. Mud slides are a real threat.

Luckily storms in our area seem to blow through quickly, but not without dumping inches of rain in just a few hours. Unfortunately our storm system is not maintained well enough to keep the waters moving. (Budget cuts, you know)

On a more personal note, my DD10 has been off track this month but we have only made it to DLR once this month. This week is out and next week were are planning a 3 day trip to Monterey. (Unless the rain doesn't end). When are we going to be able to go to DLR? I don't mind visiting WDW in the rain but here in sunny So Cal when it rains, it's cold. I mean it's not like I can walk around in my crocs letting my feet get wet! They'll turn into little ice cubes.

I hope the next storm blows through quickly without dumping too much rain on our local mountains and hillls. Watch out Vegas and AZ. Rains acomin' your way. :umbrella:

I did want to say that I may tease you So Calers about your intolerance to rain but I am only teasing! I hope you guys are all safe and no one gets hurt with this insane weather!! Be CAREFUL!

Not just rain for us but snow. I was out with DH shoveling this morning at 4 am. I will get the honor of shoveling in the morning, too. My concern is Thursday into Friday. They are predicting 2-4 inches of rain followed by 1-2 feet of snow. Oh, my!!! I hope that prediction changes! I feel for those down elevation from us because they are calling for severe flooding.

No worries-we all just know you are jealous!;)

Wow, I didn't know there was a tornado watch today! :scared1: We had to go to CHOC today for DS's therapy and didn't get any rain on our way over but as we drove from CHOC to his other appointment in south orange county, it was POURING! It was really hard to see anything. We had a window in the office we were in so we watched the rain (tornado?) outside. I was really not looking forward to driving home for 1.5-2 hours in the pouring down rain. Fortunately, the rain stopped and there was blue skies as we drove home! It rained heavy here at our house again tonight though but at least we weren't driving in it. Hopefully it won't be raining on thursday when we have to drive to choc again. Everyone stay safe out there!

Somehow I don't think us feeling sorry for them will help at all. :sad1: I lived in south Florida for 6 years and Washington (state) for one before moving here to San Diego so this is nothing for me, but it is definitely the most it's rained since I've lived here, and the wind is shaking my house! I volunteer on a whale-watching boat and our trips were cancelled today and likely will be throughout the week. I will hope for everyone that the rains become at least manageable for your trips!!! :umbrella:

OMG! I was in San Diego over MLK weekend and it was crazy down there yesterday. A lot of streets were flooded. I actually took a picture of this guy who got stuck in a puddle the size of a lake (the water went above his tires). I think water started seeping into his car because he rolled down his window, got to the roof of his car and jumped as far as he could toward the sidewalk and abandoned his car :scared1: :sad2:

It was raining pretty bad this morning in San Francisco but I think the worse part of the storm is yet to come tomorrow. Stay safe everyone!

Some areas in Disney today were flooded, above ankle deep. It downpoured for quite awhile today.
The tornado hit Huntington Beach and our hotel called each room to let us know about the tornado warning. If you google tornado huntington beach you can see the pictures of what the area looks like. Cars under water, cars flipped over, etc. These floods on the roads were major, it was up to some car roofs. It is bad storms, not just rain.

I live within an hour of Disneyland. Fortunately, I was working from home today so didn't have to go out at all. OMG it was bad! Once it started, massive rain and wind. I was sure our rose bushes were going to be lost. (They weren't, but we lost some of our canalilies :( ) The rain was so strong that at one point there was a noise so loud that I thought a window broke. And it just kept going and going.

There are some amazing photos online from areas not too far from us. I posted elsewhere asking a mod to let me know if I can post the URL (it's a news site), but have not received the okay. Cars floating, trees down through houses, the 710 fwy was completely fllooded and had to be closed (HUGE traffic issues).

And tomorrow, there is supposed to be another storm.......

It's raining here right now. Supposed to be like this til Fri. :sad2:

Talked to my DNephew (who is in CELEBRATE) and DLR did not close early yesterday. (He's starting to plan a trip to WDW and had to call the expert-me!:thumbsup2)

Today's storm is expected to be far worse than Tuesdays. Will also carry over into Thursday. Hope all are safe. :goodvibes
