we have not been to DLP since Christmas 2010 (the year of the horrible horrible snow) when we got stuck in the airport with our five kids for 3 days, barely getting home for Christmas :(

Well me and DH are 10 yrs married in Jan, and have booked the NPB for our anniversary, without the kids!!! we are feeling a tad guilty, but not enough not to go ;)

We arrive the evening of Thursday 3rd of Jan-Sun 6th. The only plan we have is on the 4th (our anniversary) is to go on every ride that takes your pic, and buy them, so we have lots of pictures of us together on our 10th anniversary for an album, sad I know

what I'm looking for is any tips, of fun things you can do in and around the disney village at night, that you can't do when you have kids with you??

we will be like fish out of water not having them with us, but I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited

How fab, I'd love to go without the children (I've said that two or three times on these boards now - I do like going WITH the children - honest!:lmao:)

If we were to go child-free though I think I'd be planning a few nice dinners (Inventions, Cape Cod maybe?) followed by a romantic stroll around the lake or a trip to all hotel bars for cocktails!

How about a bar tour. Start off at the Red Garter Saloon at the Cheyenne then over the river to the Rio Grande in the Santa Fe. From there a walk through the woods to the Sequoia Lodge and up to the Redwood Bar for cocktails next to the fire place.

Then take a walk around Lake Disney to the Newport Bay Club for another in the Fisherman's Wharf, then around the lake through the Disney Village to the Steak House. There is a nice Cheers style bare there.

Then over to the Sports Bar, and finaly into Billy Bob's before heading towards the Park to Café Fantasia in the Disneyland Hotel. (By the time you have reached here and if you are in the right mood the price hike for the first in the Red Garter to the last in Fantasia will not come as such a shock :rotfl2:)

Then finaly head back to the New York City Bar to relax before heading back to your room.

Alternatively for somthing more relaxing and less walking - book a window table for a nice romantic meal at the California Grill in the Disneyland Hotel looking down Main Street USA while Dreams! is on and the the castle is all lit up.

sounds like a brill idea (aside from the walking) :)
but dinner will def be a must

I'm going without the kids at the end of Oct with my sister and 2 other friends.
Will you be telling your kids? How old are they?
I'm not planning on telling mine, they'd be gutted. They're 7 and 5 and have both been twice, so they're not doing too badly!
I'll be going to an "education conference" and will be stopping at a Disney store to buy them some gifts... lol..

I got the head taken off me in another forum by a couple of people, one of whom questioned my parenting, for leaving the kids at home. Most were supportive though.

Oh lordy!!!! well my kids have been 3 times (the older 3). This is the first time since our honeymoon that we have left them... they are 14,11,8,4 and 2. I a hoping to bring them next year for halloween.

Yup we are telling them... the older ones know already, and they are ok with it. They are just giving us a list of what to bring them home :rotfl2:

There is nothing wrong with your parenting skills... we all know it's healthy for us all to have time apart :thumbsup2

Have a great time.. and let me know how you get on ;)

absolutly love the pub/hotel crawl idea, especially as its something you could definatly NOT enjoy with kids

Good god Tink's Mum, who are the loopers on the other forum? Nothing wrong with a parent having a holiday on their own.

Before our daughter was born I went to DLP with my husband 3 times and twice with my sister. It's a brilliant place when it's adults only. It's not just for the kids.

We haven't gone without our daughter since she was born but she's only 7 now and is an only child so it would be a bit harsh to leave her on her own. To me it would be different saying we're leaving "the kids" at home as then all the kids, whatever number there are, are all in the same boat whereas I would feel bad leaving DD on her own. Having said that I have had a couple of weekends away with my sister (not to DLP though) and left DD with her Dad so I'm all for enjoying yourself when you can!!

Certainly enjoy staying up late and enjoying the village and/or bars and enjoy spoiling yourself

Really!!! Was it because you were going away without them or that fact you were going to Disney without them??? mine are similar age to yours 7+6 and there is no way i could go to Disney without them. Seriously the mommy guilt would take the good out of it. I could
easily leave them to go else where lol!! As we all need a break. But just not to a place they love so much.

Hope ye have fun tho, and your def not a bad parent!!

As long as your not leaving your children at home alone (insert Daily Mail headline here) I think going away on holiday without children is somtimes the break that couples need.

Said sister here :) My kids (10, 7 & 4) have been to DLP 5 times, WDW once and Legoland this year. I'm looking forward to doing DLP without them or the husband for once.

Dinner in nice restaurants, sitting with a coffee people watching, going on the rides they can't or won't do, shopping in peace, do I need to go on?

We're going to have a great time :)

There's only one word that comes to my mind for an adult only trip and that's cocktails!! They just seem to taste so much nicer at Disney than anywhere else! :goodvibes

Hope you have a fantastic time - although we haven't been without our DDs yet ;) our last two holidays have taken on a far more adult feel as they've been of an age where they can go off and do their own thing ..... and we love it! Totally different to the holidays when they were young when it was all autograph hunting and character stalking but to be honest I think we enjoy Disney even more now our holidays are adult ones!

Sounds good to me. I have been known to have a cocktail in lieu of dessert :)

ETA: can't seem to add a photo via iPhone :(
