We wanted to use points to stay at Disneyland Paris this April. As of now, there are only point charts available through March.

We have called Member Services about this, and they say they have no idea why Disney Paris hasn’t released the inventory past March. They have no idea if or when they will release inventory. One rep speculated that DLP “hasn’t signed the contract” with DLP.

We felt it was important to book this as early as possible bcs we will be there for Easter Weekend, which is very busy. We were worried that with booking such a short time out, the hotel might not be availibity, which was confirmed by the reps. At this point, we have gone ahead and booked somewhere else.

Obviously, this is very much a first world problem but we feel annoyed with this. Anyone have any insights or has seen this before? We saved points for this, and we can’t use them. We feel like DVC has taken a property away from us, one that we have used before. In other words, we were able to use points at DLP, but not any more.

Hopefully, there is nothing sinister in this!

DLP (really, all of the Disney Collection) are not guaranteed exchanges. It is up to the GMs at each resort on an annual basis. DLP does not place a priority on the DVC exchange business.

this has nothing to do with DVC doing anything at all. This is like DVC asking someone to go to a movie with them, and that someone saying NO.

Can you show me the information about Guaranteed Exchanges? I have never heard of that.

My point is that it's not in the contract. There is nothing in your DVC ownership that says "you will always be able to exchange for DCL, DLP, any other Disney non-DVC property." It is not guaranteed. It's not in the contract. It can end at any time, and not by the choice of DVC because the trade partners can say NYET.

Honestly, I wouldn’t do a point exchange anyways. It would be a MUCH better value to rent out your points (getting $15pp from the brokers) and then pay cash. They often have great deals, like free nights or 40% off. You can also sometimes get cheaper rooms at the Disney hotels via hotels dot com or Expedia or something.

Consider my situation last year: 4 nights at Sequoia Lodge (Golden forest room) $1200 total, including 5-day tickets (deal was 2 nights and days free). In points that would have been at least 100 points, which would have a rental value of $1400 at that time, not including tickets, and not including the “club” level (it’s not equivalent to WDW club level but does have noticeable perks).

If you are staying in Paris, you can take the train to DLP for about 15 Euros round trip (per person).

Having said that, the hotel at the entrance to DLP looks amazing, and it is within 100 yards of 2 parks, so I see the appeal.

We got a much better cash rate booking on the Paris website flash sale than doing an exchange.

For DLP, it is much better to rent out points and pay cash, really the exchange is very poor on points.
