Opening this spring. Text is from he Disney blog article linked below.

"In keeping with that spirit, we are excited to announce that this spring Tangaroa Terrace and Trader Sam’s will open. The tiki-inspired design and storyline for this restaurant and bar were a perfect fit, as they tie in thematically with the mid-century modern architecture of the Disneyland Hotel and the adjacent Dream Tower, soon to be renamed Adventure Tower."

I guess I will have to try it in August and see if they have any T-rations.

I remember, very well, the original Tahitian Terrace. If this new place is even half as good as the original, it'll be a fair trade for the waterfalls that got removed.

What would be fabulous (but would never happen; it's kind of like a sports "dream team") is if the bar portion of the restaurant could be run by the folks at the Tiki Ti. (The Tiki Ti is one of the original tiki bars, and is still alive & kicking in Hollywood) I judge all "tropical drinks" against the ones at the Tiki Ti.

Soooooo looking forward to this new place opening up :thumbsup2

I'm looking forward to this restaurant - although DLR is so much in need of new table service restaurants that I have a feeling this one is going to be a madhouse for a long time!

But I will never accept the removal of the waterfalls and koi pond! I can't get over the loss of those. They made the DLH for me. The whole entire vibe of the DLH is changing, and I prefer a more lush feel than what it looks like it's going to be. But what can I do? It's changing whether I like it or not.:sad2:

SWEET!! a new bar!! i hope the drinks are better then they were at the place that was there before!

The article from the blog says it will be "fast-casual". That sounds like a counter service restaurant to me and I was thinking it was going to be a table service restaurant. But I'm still looking forward to having another restaurant to choose from. I guess if it's not a full service restaurant then the prices will be cheaper which would allow me to go more often but let's just hope the quality of the food is good. Can't wait to hear the first reviews when it opens.

I'm trying not to think about the fact that the waterfalls and koi pond are gone. Too sad. :sad1:

I think the purpose will be for pool food and drinks, though being raised perhaps a nice view of the area if you get lunch there too.

You can see where it is place in the drawing in this link. It is in the middle seperate from the main building and hotel towers. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/05/disneyland-hotel-makeover/
