Hello, I'm new to the boards.

We're booked (4 of us)to go to DLP in January for our eldest daughters 21st birthday. We went when she was 9 and stayed at the Davey Crocket Ranch. This time she thinks we're staying in a hotel offsite but as it's such a special occasion we've booked the DLH as a suprise. We're travelling by Eurostar and I wondered how long it takes to walk to the hotel from the station. I've been reading about Disney Express and wondered if you all thought it would be worth us paying the extra for this.

Thank you

It takes about 3 minutes from the platform! But with Disney Express you can check in and get your tickets on the train, and in DLH the bags will be taken to your room and collected from them, so it's your call as to whether its worth it. Also when you walk from the station you will have to go through bag check and open your suitcase.

Hi Robswife

What a wonderful birthday surprise for your daughter :goodvibes

Hi, welcome to the boards!!

I am staying in the DLH in january and won't be doing the express luggage thing as I'm too excited to check into DLH!!! Seeing as you have to walk past the hotel entrance to get into the magic kingdom anyway I didn't think it was worth the extra £30 and with the chance I may be able to get our room early and settle in a bit I'm happy to forego it. :)

Best birthday surpirse ever by the way!!

When are you there? I'm 25th-28th :)

Wow, three minutes from the platform - I didn't realise it was that close! Maybe Disney Express wouldn't be worth it for us then.

I'll be there from 12th to 15th January and I can't wait to see DDs face when she realises where we're staying!

Hi. We're there from 11th to 14th January. I'll be the tired-looking woman with 3 excited daughters! See you there!:goodvibes

Hi!
First of all, what a fantastic b-day present :-)
Second... DE could be worth, as you would avoid the hassle of going through security with your luggage!
As far as I understand, if you come from the RAR/TGV station you have to open your luggage at the Park security checks. If you come by bus/car you arrive at the DLH main entrance and bypass it, but not so if you come through the park entrance.

Can anyone more expert in DLH confirm? Somehow security guards messing with luggage don't feel as a magical start for an holiday ;-)

If you look at reply #2 you'll see I already mentioned this :)

Thank you everyone for your kind and helpful replies. I'm still trying to decide whether or not to splash out on Disney Express. I wasn't going to bother but onh the other hand I don't fancy the idea of someone raking through our suitcases when we arrive and it would be nice to be able to go straight to the parks. We will have had a meal on the train so we'll be raring to go! I'll give it a bit more thought I think.

They don't rake through your luggage at the security point between the train station and the DLH. You open your case, they look, usually without touching any of the contents at all, and you close the case :confused3 .

Its that simple, and that quick.

Hi. Disneyland Hotel is just FAB and as you say you have to walk past it to get to the park anyway. The only bonus with the disney express is that on your return journey you can leave your cases at the hotel and they are delivered back to the station for you, so you don't have to go back to the hotel to pick them up. You can just arrive at the station and collect them and then on board.

We have just got back yesterday and I am very sad. Still wearing my ears and pins though, whilst doing the washing and ironing.

Have a great time and many happy returns to your daughterprincess:

When we stayed at the DLH we flew and went on private shuttlebus to the hotel (RS Transports) so missed the security as mentioned above (bit odd to me when others have it tbh but there you go!). We arrived late in the eve so we checked in straight away without waiting etc. However, when we checked out on the last day (am) there was quite a queue waiting to check in - for that alone (if you are on tight time and want to get into the park) it may be worth it?...

Thank you for that Patsy - I must say that after considering everyones advice, I'm leaning towards splashing out on the Disney Express.

Thank you everyone

When we stayed at DLH earlier this year everybody who arrived on the train (about a dozen or so of us) were made to put our bags on the ground and step away from them. There was no explanation in English, just pointing and gesticulaion and felt very intimidating. someone spoke enough French to understand that we were waiting for sniffer dogs who eventually arrived. The whole process took about 20 mins. This did not spoil our stay at DLH, but it ruined our initial excitement on arrival and is one thing that would slightly put me off staying there again.
