DLH new pools and tower names.

I think the changes are going to be wonderful. They desperately need some more places to eat. Not everyone wants to fight the crowds at DTD. I never go look at the waterfalls anyway. But then I only stay one or two days at the most. They need to compete, the new pool will help with that. They are keeping it "Disney" looking but something gotta give if they want more restaurant.

You read my mind, Judy! I was thinking about posting photos of the things we are about to say goodbye to at the DLH as well!!

I had forgotten all about that little helicopter doodad thingy! That was an odd contraption. But I loved the pedal boats!

It's interesting to look back at some of the older DLH restaurants that were hacked off in the 1998 makeover:

Not only do I desperately miss the Monorail Cafe and its scrumptious milk shakes, pies, banana splits, BBQ chicken sandwiches, beer battered-onion rings and burgers, I also miss Grandma Mazie's!!! Neon Cactus used to be Sgt. Preston's Yukon Saloon (with karaoke). Stromboli's used to be Cafe Villa Verde. But it's interesting to see that Goofy's Kitchen - which is so popular today - was on the chopping block, almost ready to be axed with the other restaurants. Instead, they moved it.

I booked the DLH for September for my family's first trip, but know I'm wondering if we should upgrade to the GCH or definetely downgrade to the Candy Cane, since one of the reasons I wanted to stay in the DLH is the Neverland Pool.. and since we have a standard view, we might end in the older rooms and with construction all over... so confused!!
What would you Disney vets recommend me??? stick with the DLH? The GCH was our first bet but it will tighten our budget and I'm not sure if I want to do that.. and Candy Cane seems so.. non-magical after looking at DLH pics!!

If you downgrade, go to the Paradise Pier Hotel- that way you will still be on site. As far as the refurbished rooms go, you will probably have a higher likelihood of getting a remodeled room than you would if you went earlier. I figure that they're working on them every day, and the longer you wait, the more rooms will be completed.

However, the GCH rooms are so cheap right now, it may be a good time to upgrade.

I wonder now that people are staying in the new Dream tower rooms. If they look to have an Adventure style to them. I don't really think so from the pics I've seen but I wonder if this means the other towers will have different styled rooms now.

Yeah, I'm confused about them naming the newest refurbed tower "Adventure" Tower, because this is what the new rooms look like:

I guess that means that all towers regardless of name will have the same blue/fantasyish room decor. Too bad really, because it would be so neat to have different decor in each of the towers. I could see the Adventure Tower with exotic islandy themed rooms, the Frontier Tower with a more Wilderness Lodge type of feel, and the Fantasy Tower could just be the one they're working on right now.

Who knows, maybe they'll decide to change their mind before construction starts on the other towers, but I doubt it. They probably already ordered a whooole bunch of those castle headboards and fancy blue pillows before they even decided on the new tower names.

Thanks... I just saw one of the new rooms, and they look amazing!! I think I'll wait a little bit longer and see what will happen to the pool. And you maybe right, we'll be checking in early so we might have a good shot at having one of those beautiful new rooms.

Was just at DLR this morning and noticed that the tower they are currently working on (Wonder?) will still have some upper level rooms with balconies. These are probably suites, but they definitely DO have walk out balconies. The Adventure (Dreams) tower is complete and there are NO balconies in that tower. Just wanted to pass this along.

Phase one of the pool will be done in about 1 week. The old main pool is not part of phase 1. Phase 1 includes brand new pool, hot tub splash area and water slides.

Just as an update since we checked out yesterday the construction on the pool looked to be coming well along - we saw water dripping from the monorail slide (this was before it started raining), so maybe they're getting close to completion on that bit at least ...
