DL walk of magical memories bricks

You cannot "say" much. I was thinking of the stones outside BLT, people wrote clever things, and some of the WDW pavers are amusing too. But at DL, name, date, town and state. I wanted to put "The Jersey Shore" after our names, but that does not work. and since New Jersey is sort of long, we have NJ instead. So we just have "The [last name]s" and "[Hometown], NJ" I only used 2 of the 3 lines. they described the options for pictures, I think a wedding type holding hands, mickey head 2011, a castle with clouds. I heard CM exclusive and just went for that one, it is a full body Mickey. There may be another choice, I did not wait to get a fax of them. I just ordered and paid over the phone right away.

Bought a paver as soon as I could grab my phone and CC. :) I'm *really* surprised that the remaining pavers are so close to the DL entrance though I'm really happy for it anyhow! I got a C08 group too. :woohoo:

The bricks are only guaranteed to be there 10 years... so your brick may be replacing one that was there for the past 10 years! Hence the great location!

You really can't say anything on your brick other than name, date and locale. I tried to put my dd6's name, December 3 2005 and "First Visit" since that was the date of her first visit to DL but they nixed it... Oh well... We know what the dates mean! and we go an take a picture by our bricks every time we go! :thumbsup2

Just ordered mine...sounds like we are in C19. I did not ask a lot of questions. I had a very grouchy CM who could not spell or pronounce my son's name even after telling her how to like five times.....Elias...

That's Walt's name.... That CM is in the wrong business!

Just ordered – C19 too! :yay:

I purchased 2 Premier Passports for my girls so they would have parking privileges without me. I have a Deluxe. They would not give me the 20% discount! I received 10%. I *really* thought that I would be able to use my daughter’s card for discounts. I’ve received a lot of flax for parking and merchandise purchases too. I really wish I had gotten the PP for me and given the Deluxe to one of my girls. :sad2:

I ordered ours today and got C19 as well... I was a little sad that we could not use our nicknames... Nobody calls us by our "real" names anymore, but the CM was nice about it and said it just wasn't allowed..

How old are your girls and are they with you when this is happening? If they are not with you, then you are not allowed to use their pass for discounts/parking.

But I was told by a CM that I could use DD's premium pass (with my Visa) as long as she was present. That is only because she is a minor and I was paying for her. I don't know if that is the true policy or not, but I have only been questioned about it once (in many shopping trips) and when I told that CM what the first CM told me, she was fine applying the discount. My DH is also able to use DD's pass for discount for meals, while paying with his Visa (again, DD is always with us though). The same goes for parking, but she has to be in the car with us (the passholder must be present...and about 1/2 the time I notice them look in the car to make sure she is there).

This year I finally decided to get the Premium also so that I wouldn't have to drag DD into the stores for every purchase, LOL. I noticed that when we used my premium pass for a meal with DH's Visa that they would not do it because I am an adult (and in that case, the discount is definately not transferable). I just paid using my Visa, LOL.

For the brick, I can see where they would not let you use your daughter's pass for the discount since the order is in your name, not hers. The same thing happened to me when I was purchasing a bottle of wine at the GCH. I could not use DD's pass for the discount because she is not old enough to purchase the wine.

One DD is 17 and the other is 13. I was told that I should put the Premiere Passports in their names so that they can go with friends and the parking would be free. I told my daughter to spread the word! Tell all your friends that if they are going to DL they should take you with them because you can get in free and they can park for free too! I thought this was how it worked.

Last month in a shop on Main St., I was given grief about buying a jacket for my 13 y.o. daughter who was standing right there! But, I was using my CC. So, I said “OK – I would like to purchase a gift card which I will hand to my daughter so she can purchase the jacket and receive 20% off. Is this *really* necessary?” I got a displeased look, but she finally took my CC.

Believe me, had I known there would be any issues at all; I would have put one of the PP in my name. Next year – I will, but next year I won’t need the PP’s which save us 20% since we will not be going to WDW next year. We're headed to WDW April 15th! :yay:

I'm surprised about that too! Yes, if she is in the car then her pass is good for the parking structure. Do the Premier passes look different than the others? Do they have the big "P" on them? Maybe the CMs just are not familiar with the Premier pass. But it absolutely is valid for parking if she is in the car and I would ask for a supervisor (or take the receipt to Guest Services) if they make you pay.

For the stores, you could also ask for a supervisor there, but again, I'm not sure if there is an official policy on that. But it is reasonable that a parent be able to pay for a minor child's purchase and most times, the CMs don't even question me about it (in probably 100's of transactions because my DD has been the only one with a premium pass for the past 10 years now).

I hope you have a wonderful visit to WDW!!! We went last August for the first time and it was amazing :thumbsup2

Okay, don't get mad at the messenger here.... I am trying to help provide information and ease the frustration you have experienced.

You are breaking the rules when you use your daughter's PP to make purchases. It is HER pass. SHE is entitled to the discounts, not you, not her friends, not her siblings. So... when you did what you explained above with the jacket, the Cast Member was 100% correct. Someone else (you) was using your daughter's discount. This is not allowed. It does not matter that she is standing right there - YOU were clearly making the purchase. You need to hand your daughter cash and have HER buy whatever it is with HER discount.

As for the parking, you are 100% right. If your daughter is in the car (with her AP with her) SHE is entitled to free parking of whatever vehicle she is in. However, to show the analogy to shopping, she cannot point to another car and get that car free parking. (SHE has to be in the car. SHE has to be the one making the purchase. SHE is the one with the discount/parking privileges.)

Hopefully this helps ease frustrations. The CM was correct in denying you your daughter's discount when paying with your credit card. You got some pixie dust if they actually ran the discount for you. If I were you, I would be very happy. You got a nice CM who did you a favor. :goodvibes

Not the OP but I have made many purchases using my Visa for my daughter. As it was explained to me by a CM (I came out and asked specifically if it was OK to do this), it is OK if I am paying on behalf of my minor child. I am not sneaky about it or trying to pull something over on them. If my daughter is standing next to me, she puts the items on the counter and hands them her pass, the CMs have allowed me to pay using my credit card. I have paid this way over and over again and have only been questioned once. When I told that CM what the other CM told me, the CM also (happily) allowed the transaction.

The same holds true for ordering meals. We buy lunch every time we go using my DDs pass and my DH's Visa and they have never questioned it.

If this was only once or twice, I would say we just got lucky. But I don't consider it a favor or Pixie Dust when it happens that way all the time. Sometimes they have looked at her pass, looked at my Visa, looked up at us and then continued with the transaction (so I know they are checking). But it was still allowed.

Again, I believe this is only the case because the child is a minor and I, as her parent, am fiscally responsible for her. She is 12, so there is no question that she is a minor. I don't believe for a second that I could walk up with another person (or my adult child) and use my Visa to pay for their transaction (using their AP discount). It only applies to my minor child.

Now I understand that this does not apply for items that are purchased under a specific name (such as ordering the brick) or where it is an item that DD cannot legally purchase (such as alcohol). But for all other purchases, they have allowed us to do it.

Dreams – this really doesn’t make a lot of sense to me… You are saying that I could hand my daughter money and she could then purchase the item. But if I, the mother of this 13 y.o. minor, would prefer to use my CC then we are breaking the rules? Like I said to the CM – I’ll just buy a gift card with my CC and hand that to my daughter if that is what I need to do, but seriously – isn’t that just silly?

The Premier card is fairly new – it allows entry into both DLR and WDW as well as the water parks at WDW and parking at all locations. This pass also comes with a 20% discount on merchandise and food. The Premier card costs $700.00. I purchased 2 of those for my girls and a Deluxe Pass for myself. I really think my family should receive 20% on all our purchases with Zero hassle.

Even the brick – I could have gone to the trouble of purchasing a gift card and called to order the brick saying I was my daughter – or have her call – but really, isn’t that just silly? I have all the cards registered online under my name – that should be sufficient IMO.

When you present HER annual pass, you are purchasing something using HER discount, not yours. This is not allowed. Technically.

I'm not saying that I don't agree with you in practice, but as I stated in my post above, I am just trying to explain the policy and why you encountered what you did.

I am very familiar with the Premier Pass. If you daughter has one, then she is entitled to all that it includes. If you do not, you are not. Technically.

The Premier gives your daughter admission to both Parks, various discounts, etc. It does not give YOU admission to both Parks (not saying you tried to use it for this) and it does not give YOU discounts (which technically is what was done).

Let's use a husband and wife example. If they have different last names and one is an AP holder and the other presents their spouse's AP and their own credit card, they will not be allowed to use the combination. It is not the spouse's discount. It is the AP holders discount. Same in your situation.

I understand that she is a legally a minor and that you are her mother, but she is allowed in the Park alone. She can play, eat, and shop without you there. She has a discount attached to her AP that you do not have attached to yours. She can get the discount. You cannot. Technically.

As for the paving stone... I have my application form right here. On the back it says, "Premium Annual Pass Discount (10%)...Discounts are not transferable." So, a wife cannot use her husband's discount. A sister cannot use her brother's discount. A parent cannot use his/her child's discount.

Do CM's do it to make people happy? Yes. Do they have to? No. It's a non-transferrable privilege that belongs to the AP holder.

i agree.Whether she is a minor or not, her name is on that pass, she is the only one that can get the discounts from it.My suggestion be that the OP get a Pass that has discounts for her self since she cannot use her daughters..or just got the girls deluxe ap's and bought a PP for herself.. that is my other suggestion

We just purchased our paver and are also in C19. We are so excited! It's cool that so many of us Dis'ers will be in the same area. We'll be there in June to take a picture of where our paver will be and back in October to see the real thing! :thumbsup2

Sshh its a secret

I bought two bricks in C19 next to each other for Santa to give my parents and my DD's on Christmas morning for our Christmas trip. Santa will deliver the replica and then we can go searching.

Thanks to the OP. I knew that you could purchase the bricks and I had been indecisive, but closing date of Feb made me just do it.
