DL tickets now have names printed on them

Effective yesterday, all Disneyland multiple-day tickets of three days or more have the user's name printed on them. This will help to prevent people from sharing multi day tickets and nonresidents from using resident tickets. But, most importantly, it will prevent people from using another person's ticket to upgrade to an AP.

Great! This is a good step in the right direction. I still have a feeling that they won't really be ID'ing very regularly, but as you said, at least it will prevent people from upgrading from other people's passes. I'm assuming, though, that names still won't be on any type of ticket that you buy at the local grocery store or at Costco.

I wonder how it would work for e-tickets though? Since you turn in your paper for a park ticket at the turnstiles. They wouldn't have time to print your name on the ticket right then and there, and they don't even have any type of machine/device at the turnstiles that would do any printing that I know of.

Yes, I too am wondering how they will do this with things like passes bought through AAA, GAT, Ares, etc. Also, they can't really print the names before first use since they can be given to someone else instead. This would be a long process if they have to do it at the turnstyle.

When you use your AP for discounts at stores/restaurants, does your picture come up on those screens as well?

Oh, ok. That makes sense. The thingy they sent me said no need to visit the center for a renewal. Does that mean new APs still have to get their picture taken? We always let ours expire after our second summer trip and then get new ones the next summer. If they go to a "continuous membership" type AP, that will throw off our system but hopefully that will be a while.

I'm the opposite! I also have a Premium and I get asked for my ID all the time, which I think is funny because they are holding my AP that has my picture and name!

When we purchased tickets from GetAwayToday when we went to the ticket window to get them, the man assisting us made sure I wrote down the names of the people who would be using the tickets. This was the week before last.

For us, the original purchaser of the tickets had to present ID, but none of the tickets were for me, I was able to write my spouse's name, as well as our 2 kids names down. No ID was needed for them at the time (week before last.) That was through GetAwayToday that we bought ours.

I am glad they are making tickets more secure. I wish that this would spread throughout the concert/event/theatre industry. It would absolutely cripple the scalping business. Simply add the user's name to the ticket and refuse to honor it if they don't match the person who shows up to the event. (This is the point where someone points out "what happens if the person can't go, or wants to give the ticket away?" - easy charge a sufficiently painful change fee to discourage changes... say $100. People would learn to think before they act!)
