DL ticket upgrade question

We are going to Disneyland in July. I have put off buying the tickets because I can't figure out what the rules are for adding a day to a ticket. I know how the system works at WDW, but haven't seen the same info for California.

We fly in from the east coast in the morning arrive at LAX around noon. I am not sure if we will go to Disneyland that day or not. Which means the difference of a 3-day vs a 4-day park hopper. So if I buy the three day hoppers today (before the price goes up), but decide that we do want to go that first evening...

A) Can I go to guest services and add a day to our tickets?
B) If I buy the 3 day ticket at todays price, what price do I pay?
The full difference between what I paid and the new 4-day price?
Or just the difference between a 3-day and a 4-day ticket?
and Does the ticket used or not change that answer?

Thank You for your help --- Mary

You can add a day, but unlike WDW, they'll charge you the full difference between whatever you paid for your ticket and the current price of the ticket you are upgrading to. Doesn't matter if ticket is used or unused.

So buying at the pre-increase price won't do you any good if you end up upgrading.

I am relatively new here, but my understanding is that you can always upgrade a ticket at Guest Services, but they will only credit you what you paid.

Long story short, if you change to a 4 day hopper, you'll end up paying the full new gate price.

Given the relatively small change in cost between the 3 and the 4 right now, if it were me, I'd probably just buy the 4, and not let it bother me too much if I ended up only using 3.

(I've done exactly that, well, not exactly, bought a five instead of a four just to get three hours on the evening we arrive, it was well worth it, otherwise the kids would have been losing their minds.)

...I just logged in to ask almost the exact same question, so can I piggy back a bit?

We too are arriving at noon, last time we did this it was grand we were standing in Adventure by one with an ice cream in hand after flying in from Canada. Can anyone confirm what the price difference would be for an 8 to nine day hopper will be? Do you need to be on an exception list to upgrade or just go the gate?
FlightCentre has 8 day hopper tickets priced until the 22nd at
Adult price: $234taxes & fees included
Child price: $215taxes & fees included
(3-9yrs)

You most likely won't be able to upgrade to a 9 day ticket at the gate, as there is no such thing sold at the gate.

If they do allow it, my guess is it would be about $15, as that is what it is to add a day to the 5 or 6 day passes, even after the price increase.

By the way, in California, there are no taxes on theme park tickets and Disneyland charges no fees, so the taxes and fees included part is there just to make you feel good.
