DL Railroad ?'s--strollers ok? & direction it runs?

Hi all!

For those Disneyland RR experts out there...2 questions:

1) How does it work with strollers? We'll have our own regular single stroller and our umbrella stroller. Where/how do you load them? Can you even have them on board with you?

2) Which direction does the RR run? I'm thinking counter-clockwise? (So, if we get on at the Main St. loading area, we would travel to New Orleans area, then on to Toontown, then Fantasyland, etc...?)
Or does it ever SWITCH directions?

You will need to fold up your stroller to take it on board with you. There is no ramp at Main St station. You will need to carry it up the stairs to board the train.

You are correct on the direction. And no, it never switches directions.

You can take your strollers with you on the train. You just have to fold them up.

And you are right about the direction of the train. If starting on Main Street, you head towards NOS and so on. It never changes direction though.

I love the train..it's a great way to take a break and see the park at the same time. Have fun!

So, a regular single stroller (Graco) will be fine then?
Do we DEFINITELY have to fold it up? (ugh...we'll have SOO much stuff in the underneath basket!)

They will definitely ask you to fold it up. I know it can be a pain, but it's pretty much necessary or the whole train would be overwhelmed with strollers.

People say they are foldable. I've rented them for a total of 6 or 7 days, though, and I have never been able to fold one of them.

So when we've had a rental stroller, we just park it at a station and come back for it later.

And yes, you have to have the things you're keeping in your stroller easy to grab up...have to fold it (or leave it, and I do not recommend leaving *anything* in a stroller!) for the train and monorail.



Oh! The toontown station actually lets you off in the Princess Fantasy Faire area...so it's both ToonTown and Fantasyland in one, one, one clever station!

Would it make any sense to board at Toontown/Fantasyland just to get off at the Tomorrowland stop?
I'm thinking that would just be a bunch of wasted time and that it would be much quicker to just walk to Tomorrowland?
(we'll be leaving MTTMM and heading to ride Autopia/Buzz...that's why I'm asking which would be the quicker route)

Much faster to walk! Especially if you are dealing with a stroller! You will almost always have to wait for a train to arrive.

I haven't tried folding the ones at the park but we have the same stroller at home (but obviously it's the nicer non-rental version) so I know how it folds and it's really easy. There's a strap that snaps to both sides of the frame and on the rental ones I believe they are colored a bright color so they are easy to find. You just unstap those and then you pull straight up on the handle in the crease of the seat that says "pull". It folds right up. Hope that helps and wasn't too confusing.

And I agree with PP, the train never seems to be a fast mode of transportation. Sometimes it seems like you wait forever for it to arrive.

Also, don't forget that the best part of riding the train is the Grand Canyon Diarama (sp?) Make sure you ride the train between TL and Main St. to see the Grand Canyon as is now and as it was when dinos roamed the earth. Still pretty cool after all these years.

ccdisney is right-walking would be faster especially since Buzz is located closer to Matterhorn/Star Tours than to the TL station. It's pretty much in the middle of the park.

We rode the train for the first time in October, just because we were pooped and it was there.

I can honestly say I was surprised at how entertaining it was and will totally do it again.

I took DD on the train for something to do. We left the stroller in Toon Town and rode it all the way around to NOS, then got off to use the potty and walked back to Toon Town to get the stroller.

Not sure what kind of stuff you're packing under your stroller, but after several days in the parks already, I felt comfortable leaving ours behind for that amount of time.

We liked the train for a break to sit for a bit while we rode the whole loop!

As for stuff in strollers, don't leave anything valuable and you should be fine. We left snacks, rain ponchos, jackets (not designer ones or anything nice), diapers, wipes, and changes of clothes for the kids and nothing was every disturbed. I WOULD NOT leave purchases (souveniers and such), electronics (things like cell phones), expensive coats, or anything you'd be sad if it got stolen. I figured if my diapers got stolen I could buy more and wouldn't be out much money, same with the snacks.
