How does the DL monorail work?

At DW I know it's outside the park and one doesn't need tix to board. It simply get's you to/from hotels, parks, parking lots.

But how does it work at DL. Seems like it goes in the park boarding in tomorrowland). Is boarding in the park (thus you wound need a tix)? But also boarding in downtown disney (outside the park)? Does it stop at park entrance?

Yes you need a ticket. The two stops are DTD and Tomorrowland. You have to go through a bag check and scan your admission ticket before boarding in DTD.
