DL Indy Ride to MGM?

I know that we rode Indy several times as a family and we all had a wonderful time. Those in our car with us seemed to feel the same way. Dinosaur seemed more humdrum to me but the kid loves it so we also rode it many times. But as always these opinions are very subjective.

As for not building anything similar in MGM, why not build something like this but improve it?

There actually is a truly terrifying moment in Dinosaur, and it's when the immense Carnotaurous leans over the right side of jeep and bellows VERY loudly. I've seen people cry at that moment.
Having been to all the Disney parks around the world (except DisneySea), it doesn't bother me to have clones of rides, as long as each park has SOME unique attractions. I don't think a lot of people go to more than one Disney park on a regular basis, so the clones don't bother them.
For the Disney fanatics, getting to go on your favorite rides yet again t'aint a bad thing.
Of course, each park MUST have some unique attractions. Going to Tokyo Disneyland was definitely enhanced by "Meet the World," "Cinderella's Mystery Tour," their version of the "Tiki Room" (now entirely different than any other) and "Mickey Mouse Review."
Trips to Disneyland Paris are enchanced by their unique version of "Space Mountain," "Mysteries of the Nautlaus," "Timekeeper" (the original French version of this was always superior, and it is now the only remaining version), "Indiana Jones Temple of Peril," and the fantastic Queen of Hearts maze.
However, we all want to see clones of our favorite rides in these parks as well!

I'm curious daannzzz, what did you feel was the terrifying moment in Dinosaur? I've ridden the thin lots of times and nothing ever scared me (even before they toned it down so much). I'm not looking to argue with you, I would just really like to know what worked for you that didn't work for me.

Not much scares me these days but at the end of Dinosaur you come down a hill into a valley where there is alot going on (sometimes). The Vortex generator shoots the ball of smoke across the path, there is a lot of noise and as you start up the hill there is a dark cave above you that the Carnotaur head comes out of and roars at you. It is not sudden but because the lighting on it is very subdued and the roar is loud it just has this nightmarish quality for me. They have a similar scene in the Jurassic Park ride at Universal but it doesn't have the same effect on me at all.

Thats the scene where they take your photo, right? That scene scares my wife, but it never had much effect on me. Its very well done, but I just never had enough buy in to be scared. The only moment that used to make me jump a bit was the pterydactil that would swoop down and fly over you. The last few times I've ridden Dinosaur, the pterydactil was stationary, just hanging in one position. It was much more effective when it moved. It really gave you the sense that it was swooping in to grab you.

See the pteradactil part never bothered me. I don't think they were there on my first ride a few weeks after the park opened and only once since then have I seen them fly over. That is a problem in both Dinosaur and Indy. They let the effects break down and don't fix them. Pretty soon you are careening arounf the ride with not alot going on!!!

daannzzz- That would explain why it was so dark last time I rode Dinosaur... if they (the Guests) can't see it, then they don't know its broke.

There doesn't seem to be enough room where the indy stunt show is now for the indy ride to fit. So that rumor i don't believe. However, I've heard the SOARING OVER CALIF. rumor a number of times, in several places. The first time I heard it was in Cal. Adv. when I was waiting in line for like the 4th-5th time to go on the Soarin' ride. (I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS RIDE). I was talking to a CM to pass the time, telling him how much I enjoyed this ride and he said to me that they were planning to put one in WDW, in EPCOT. Then later that week I heard it again from a waiter in a restaurant (who saw I was wearing a SOARIN' OVER CALIFORNIA t-shirt and a WDW hat, so he brought it up). Then a few months later when I was in WDW I heard it from a CM who saw me wearing the same T-shirt and then later on that week, while in EPCOT in THE LAND having lunch, another CM said the same thing. He said people were all around the park taking measurements etc. With all those people saying the same thing, I pray its true!!!

Just wondering what the changes were that were made on dinosaur? The only difference that I have noticed since it was called countdown to extinction is that they seemed to have {thank God!} turned the volume down. Since we visit on a regular basis, I've never noticed anything broken or the lights not being bright enough to see the show. Perhaps if one thing is not working on the ride they wait until the ride closes down for the evening instead of fixing it right away and having to have the whole ride shut down.

If it did take more room, why couldn't they go out in to the parking lot (they did in D-land)?

here is dland at the same zoom, I can't see why it wouldn't fit anyway?

Disneyland Indy looks about like 100 yards square, there is about that much at the stunt show - I know that it is pretty imprecise of course, but I mean with the parking lot to expand in to it shouldn't be any problem -

The Indy building at Disneyland Park is IMMENSE. When you're walking to Downtown Disney on the Esplanade you don't even realize that the gigantic building the size of ten supermarkets just to your right is the Indy show building.
I would imagine it's considerably larger than the footprint of the Indy stunt show.

I hate the idea of Soarin' going to Epcot and Indi going to MGM. Why? Then there is no use to going to other park when they all have the same rides! While if we get a ride at say, DLP, it would be different, but I really don't like the idea of Indi going to MGM.

I agree. I think it is nice to ride something you can only ride on one coast or the other. I understand why ToT is going into DCA (because the park needs another E-Ticket ride in the worst way), but WDW isn't hurting like that. I think with Soarin' and Indy going to WDW, it's saying "We want more E-ticket rides in the parks, but don't want to use our imagination and design something new".

Well, I for 1 don't ever expect to travel to the other side of the country to go to the Disneyland resort when I live in Florida, so I am overjoyed at the prospect of the addition of new (to WDW) tested attractions coming to WDW. I personally think that WDW should feature the best of all the resorts throughout the world.
Based on this logic, the Magic Kingdom should have never been built in WDW.
I think it's very smart for Disney and great for the fans in every part of the world to create a new attraction at a resort, and if it proves itself add it to all the other resorts throughout the world.
Furthermore, the money saved in cloning successful attractions will help cover the gamble of producing new unproven attractions. Every new attraction can't be a 50 million dollar, 5 year display of innovation.
Keep up the good work Disney!

Maybe it's just me, but isn't Star Tours and Body Wars practically the exact same ride? If so.... then why would using the "Dinosaur" ride system for an Indy ride at MGM be such a big deal? As long as the scenery/effects changes - then that is makes the ride.

Now... for having 2 "stunt" shows at one park (keeping the Indy stunt show plus the Motor Stunt show). Well... remember..... it IS a "Movie Studio". Wouldn't you expect them to have multiple attractions that touch on the movie theme? And since both feature different aspects of "stunt" presentation - I think they would compliment each other.

I agree with you. We live 86 miles from WDW and have no intention of going to California, for a large number of reasons. So I say, bring on Soarin' AND Indiana Jones!

I agree with Jeffh. I don't care if it is the same ride as CA. That Indiana Jones ride is the best yet. We deserve it at WDW. Should have had it years ago. Dinosaur just does not do Indiana Jones justice. As far as Soarin, that too is one of the best. Bring those attractions here. The sooner the better.

I think that general technology could be the same between parks, but story and other things need to change. I wouldn't mind having an Indy ride at MGM, but ONLY if it is a new story and layout from the DL version.

JeffH, Mitros, let me make sure I follow your logic...

Because YOU don't plan on visiting anywhere other than WDW, the best decision for Disney is to clone the best attractions into WDW?

Or are you merely stating what works for you personally?

Best for me and everyone I know.
Best business decision for Disney.
Cloning is dirt cheap compared to inventing from scratch.
That frees up money for other things AND new attractions.
I'd rather have 1 new attraction and 4 clones of great attractions, then 2 new attractions any day.

Furthermore, I'm sure it's not Disney's business plan that we are expected to visit all the parks throughout the world...no that's why they are building (or allowing to be built) resorts all over the world. So offering an exclusive attraction at a park makes no sense.
Even Furthermore, WDW is the big resort that Disney wants people to 'camp' at for a week vacation. This is the resort Disney wants people to go to, since they potentially could spend twice as much time than at any other Disney resort. It would make no sense to add an exclusive attraction at the DLresort to lure the Smith family in Central USA to spend their vacation at DL instead of WDW, when they would only spend 2-4 days at DL, then visit other resorts in the area, while at WDW they could spend 5-10 days at WDW without ever leaving.
Even Further Furthermore, building 5 new attractions for the price of 2 handles that many more people, and at a resort that is trying to cater to as many people as possible this is important.
---
A Disney fan who normally goes to WDW would visits Disneyland still would enjoy the same rides there and relish in noting the subtle differences as well as the different atmosphere of the 'different' park.

That would be awesome if the moved Indy to the east coast. I rode it for the first time last year..since we were ablet o go to Cali moving to arizona and all. Its so believeable. Ive been to WDW 7 times and rode Dinosuar countless times, and never once did i believe any of the effects. LIke the one person said about covering their head during the darts area, I DID THAT TOO! its so freaky...and when the boulder comes rollinga tyou and you THINK you are moving backwards..its really the walls on each side of you moving and the boulder moves if at all like a few inches, they couldnt make the cars move backwards because it would set off the emergency stop since the space between vehicles would become to close. You can actually see the walls move backwards if you look at them and down i think..I've done it and its cool although it can ruin the magic of that part. I still have yet to find the bamboo pole...i yanked on others but quit after getting too many crazy stares. LOL is there any way to locate it and find out if it is working when i am in DL?
