DL Hotel or Grand Californian?

So our plane tickets have been purchased but I am still trying to decide on our hotel. The last time we went to DL we stayed at the GC and loved it but now are tempted to try the DL Hotel since it has been updated.

My concern with the DL Hotel is the distance to the parks and the construction. I have an 11 yr old with cerebral palsy who uses a stroller as a wheelchair for the parks and it is getting really hard to push him around. So for anyone with knowledge of both resorts, how much farther is the DL hotel to the entrances? How bad is the DL Hotel construction? Can we use the monorail to get to the parks? Thanks for the help and opinions!!!

I just got back from the DLH and the construction really bothered me. I usually love this hotel but the walls made it difficult to get around. My "premium view" was of construction!!

As far as the monorail, they usually aren't running it until around 10 am because of the construction at DCA so it may not be available right when the park opens.

They told me the construction should be done the end of September but frankly I do not see how!! There is still a lot to do on the new pool.

Given your circumstance, I would opt for the Grand - so much closer.

I just stayed at DL Hotel this weekend (my first visit to DL resort) and while the construction was a slight hassle and my view was of the ugly pool construction site, I found the hotel comfortable and quiet. We ate a few meals at Tangaroa Terrace (yummy Hawaiian burger) and were able to get breakfast snacks at the Coffee House.

That said, I really wish that I had been staying at the Grand Californian. It's just a little bit closer to everything and seems overall more convenient and better themed.

GC ... Hands down. We usually get the themepark view ... right outside the Grizzley River Run. You really feel like you are staying in the park. The DL Hotel is great too but feels a lot more removed from the parks

The Dobies stayed at the DLH just before they started pool construction, in a refurbished room, and were underwhelmed. We like the PP better. We love love love the GCH!!!!

I was going to say GCH but I realize we stay at the GCV so it's like comparing apples and oranges. We've stayed at the DLH and really enjoyed it. Comparing lobbies etc...we prefer the GCH.

I completely agree. I am the die-hard Disneyland Hotel fan (I even was the one loving it pre-renovation)--but I won't go back until the construction is "really" over. We have been several times since the construction started--and it wasn't that bad when it was just the rooms or certain towers being worked on, but the pool remodel makes the resort experience fly away. We also paid for a premium view the last two visits and requested a downtown disney view, we were given pool views of the construction. Not only is it hideous looking, but it was noisy and depressing.

I am sure we will feel the DL hotel love again, but not until the construction is over.
