Dl & DCA vs Universal?

We will be going to SoCal (Huntington Beach) for Spring Break 4/6 - 4/10.
I have a DD10 and DS12+. My BIL is pushing us to go to Universal. Will my kids enjoy it? Will it be too scary for my daughter? Maybe we should try Knotts instead? I think they prefer rides as opposed to shows. We are a military family so we can get discounted tickets for both. Would one day there be enough? I really want to go to DL & DCA!
Thanks for all your opinions!:thumbsup2

Of course there's no one answer for all kids, but I asked my DD10 and DS13 what order they would put your choices in and this is what they said:

Both put DL/DCA 1st
DD put Knotts #2 and Universal #3
DS put Universal #2 and Knotts #3

In general I'd say Knotts is more little kid friendly than Universal, but your kids are old enough that I think you'll be fine either way. And one day is definitely enough for both Knotts and Universal Hollywood, although I would expect crowds wherever you go that week.

Good Luck with your decision and have a GREAT trip!

Thanks for your input. They have not ever been to Universal or Knotts, so I'd like some more opinions if you all don't mind.

IMO, I think Knott's is more centered around it's rides and has lots of roller coasters while Universal has rides but also has several attractions that are more....oh what's the word....informational? I don't mean to make them sound boring, because they're not but what I mean is there a lot of attractions that give you a behind-the-scenes look at how they make movies or tv shows. I think they've added a few rides since the last time I was there but I don't really think of it as a park filled with rides and roller coasters. I personally like Universal better than Knott's. I went to Universal for the first time when I was 5 and I liked it. Universal also has the City Walk right next to it which has lots of restaurants. I don't know if that helps, but that's my opinion.

DD13 would pick DL/DCA first, but since I take her so often she says she is burnt out on it. For rides she would pick Knotts, but for all over stuff, she likes Universal.

Disneyland All the way... Universal is cool but there is SOOOOOOO much more for everyone to enjoy at DL/DCA then Universal. You can basically get most of Universal covered in one day. Then at DL you dont have to worry about scariness, ride hight restrictions, etc.
