DL at Halloween

We had been planning a trip to WDW for September 2009. With the latest exchange rate (We are getting 30cents less for the dollar than we were getting three weeks ago) I'm starting to reconsider. I was thinking perhaps we could do DL instead. It would save us about $4500 AUD in airfare alone. We were really looking forward to some of the things unique to WDW - MNSSHP, BBB, and the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. Is there anything special that DL offers especially for Halloween. The kids were so looking forward to this.

Well, we have the Haunted Mansion Holiday at DL - which is the Haunted Mansion ride transformed with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay. It is tranformed from the inside out and vice versa, and it is really cool to see for 3+ months out of the year (it lasts from late September through early January). Very colorful, and there is a different gingerbread house each year. I don't know if WDW does Woody's Halloween Round-Up - with pumpkin carving, crafts and treats - but we have that too. Tower of Terror is spruced up for Halloween a little bit. And we have Mickey's Trick or Treat Party, which I hear is not exactly the same at MNSSHP. California Adventure has Candy Corn Acres. It is just a really festive and great time of year to go (second only to Christmastime!). I was just looking at my PhotoPass pictures online from last weekend's trip, and I miss the giant Mickey Pumpkin on Main Street! I want to go back and see it again!!!

Mmmmm. That sounds promising. I'd love to know how the Trick or Treat party compares to MNSSHP. We did MVMCP at WDW and the kids love the Dance Parties.

What about anything else thats special. ie: WDW has Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. The other thing we were looking at was the Perfectly Princess Tea Party. Naturally we would do a few character meals, but wanted something a little more special to celebrate a 5th Birthday.

This is starting to sound like a real option for us. It would mean cancelling our DCL Cruise but the change in the exchange rates has increased the price by over $2000 AUD.

My sympathies - the recent USD exchange rate has hit us hard too, being in Canada. A Disneyland trip would cost a lot less for you in flights, lodging, and park passes than going to WDW - and Disneyland can be a lot of fun at Halloween.

We alternate going to Disneyland and WDW for Halloween (this year we are off to Disneyland for Halloween) - however, I would caution that these Halloween parties are both very different . . .

Disneyland's Halloween party doesn't have the Halloween parade, Halloween fireworks, and Villains castle stage show that WDW has - but the tickets to DL's Halloween party are also 1/2 the price of WDW's.

On the other hand, as another poster mentioned below, you do get to see the Nightmare Before Christmas seasonal overlay on the Haunted Mansion - which is fantastic! Disneyland's Halloween decorations - and the ability for anyone to wear costumes to the Halloween party - make it worth the trip for us!
