It is a topic often discussed so I thought I would comment on my experience. We went on 12/22 and it rained all morning (till around 12:30 pm). We came prepared with ponchos and umbrellas and found these helped a lot. We stayed relatively dry, as long as we avoided puddles. Our mistake was going on Splash Mountain which proceeded to get our shoes/socks drenched. There were more people there than I expected (even with the rain) and the park itself seemed busy (not surprising given the Holiday period). However, the rides themselves had short lines. The longest we waited was 20-25 minutes and that was for Nemo. We did all the rides we wanted by 1:30 pm (see below) and then shopped and left. It was totally worth it to us, given this was the only day we could go. That said, I'm glad my daughter stayed with the grandparents and did not join us. Young children (under 4 years old) seemed to be having a miserable time in the rain.

I love those rainy days with the decreased crowds but do not live close enough to take advantage. Glad you had fun.

I agree with you. Glad you have a great time and were able to do so much. However, to my surprise, my 2 and 4 year old boys loved doing DL in the rain. But again, they are boys!

We've had two 3 day trips to Disneyland in the last two years that have had pretty steady rain the whole trip.

Honestly, they were two of the best trips we've had. The reduced crowds, the being forced to just sit and watch the rain come day while sharing a hot coco . . .it's all good stuff.

I think rainy days are the best time :) barely any lines, which rocks!! I hope it rains at least one day on my trip haha.

Thank you so much for posting this. As first-timers we were pretty convinced that if it rained our trip would be ruined. It's nice to know that we can still have fun if it does happen to rain! We'll definitely come prepared!

One other quick thing.

I'd recommend getting ponchos and umbrellas in advance at a local drug store. I picked up ponchos the day before, but forgot to buy umbrellas. We drove up to Anaheim and then spent a good 30 minutes trying to find a grocery store/drug store etc. to buy umbrellas. Gas stations near the theme parks do not have any.

I have also experienced the parks in the rain, and indeed it can be miserable without the proper preparation. I have a trip coming up in Feb, and based on past trip reports, the weather is either lovely or terrible. I refuse to let my trip be ruined, so I took the advice of a tip I read on the boards. I ordered inexpensive rain suits online. Should it rain, we will be prepared with water proof shoes for everyone, and rain suits, which should allow us to have a wonderful time! Lands End has fabulous water proof shoes that have been on sale for about $30, and they are great shoes, with good walking support.

One of the days of my January 2006 trip had a fair bit of rain, and we managed to ride pretty much everything with short waits, and the only ride we even needed Fastpasses on was Space Mountain. On the minus side, the rain did result in cancellations of the parades and fireworks, and they had to call off Fantasmic five minutes into the performance when it started raining again. If you hit day 2 of my trip report (the link is in my Sig below,) you can see more on this.
