Hi everyone!

Just wondering if anyone can make a suggestion for a DJ. We are planning to use a Disney DJ but I want to make sure I get someone who is lively and fun but also still professional.

Does Disney assign one just before the wedding as is the case with the photographer?

Any suggestions or insight?

Thanks!

Disney will assign a DJ 30 days out, they will get in touch with you prior to the wedding to go over your music selections, play list, do not play list etc etc.

Cheeks605, congratulations on your upcoming FTW!

I posted this a few months ago in another thread but thought I would post it here too:

I used a Disney-supplied DJ and was very, very pleased with him.

Shortly before my vow renewal, the DJ who was assigned to my event had left me a phone message at my resort. When we spoke later on that night, he asked me what sort of music I had in mind for my outdoor dance party (it was going to be held underneath the Sorcerer's Hat Icon (click here) inside the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park). I told him that I wanted all sorts of music to be played, but primarily the kind of music that would make my guests want to get up and dance. I also told him that I wanted at least one musical set that incorporated a "moon" or "moonlight" theme since there was a full moon & lunar eclipse scheduled for the night of my vow renewal. He immediately began rattling off a list of "moon" themed songs, and I knew instantly that he knew exactly what I wanted. I was pleased. I also requested one specific song by name (the same song that I had requested to be played at my Welcome Party at the Grand Floridian). He promised me that he would add that song to my dance party's "special" musical set.

Fast foward to the night of my vow renewal. The "moon" set that my DJ had put together for my party was perfect (and he did play the song that I had requested). I was very, very pleased with how my dance party (click here) turned out.

As KT27 has stated, you will be assigned a DJ prior to your event. You may get more warning than I got, then again, you may not. But with that being said, I have read mostly glowing reports about the Disney-supplied DJ’s. And I have been reading those reports for the past several years (I first began researching a VR way back in 2000). ;) Odds are, you will be pleased with who is assigned to your event (my fingers are crossed).

Again, congratulations on your upcoming FTW.

IF you would like to request someone specific, I recommend asking for DJ Scooter. He's very professional and a lot of fun. In my experience working with him, he always honors the wishes of the couple, whether it be a raucous party with props or a less interactive party.
He has a website, but you'll need to go through Disney. You should be able to find him if you search DJ Scooter and Orlando.

Disney is *very* picky about their DJs. They only have a select few that they will even allow to play at the weddings. For example, some are certified to work at the conventions, but not weddings. From everything I have heard here, people have been very, very pleased with the Disney DJs.

We were assigned to DJ Frankie C. He was excellent. Considering the fact that we could have burned the songs we wanted played at the wedding and handed him the CDs, he was stellar. We chatted back and forth on email a few times about play lists and the general atmosphere we wanted for our reception. He nailed it. We are firm believers that music can make or break your function. He did nothing but support and add to ours.

We had very specific requests as to when to fade the music in/out for our first dance entrance, big dip, and exit. Brye told him what we needed once, and nothing else was said about it. When we rehearsed it on the floor beforehand, Frankie had it right the first time. It was incredibly calming considering I was having a heck of a time in my bustled dress  Additionally, we had found a rather obsecure song we wanted for our farewell dance- one we weren't able to find on CD in three different locations. We emailed Frankie with the dilemma. I have no idea what he had to do to get it, but he found it somewhere!

That is very interesting information, UnderTheMistletoe. I hadn't heard that before.

I do know that while I was on vacation in WDW last summer, my son spent an evening in the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park while my daughter and I hung out at our resort. When my son returned at 1 o'clock in the morning (the park was open until midnight that night), he said, "Guess who was playing music at the Sorcerer's Hat for the late-night dance party?" I looked at my son like he was a crazy man because I never knew that a dance party would be a part of the late-night theme park hours. Without missing a beat my son stated, "Mom, it was the same DJ who had played at your vow renewal."

I wish I would have known about the dance party. It would have been fun to have seen the DJ in action again (he was an excellent DJ). And it would have been fun to have danced beneath the Sorcerer's Hat again.
